AK47 owners...

Was thinking about you today. Trying to decide just how much I hate you right now haha. Reason being is that you popped in my mind as I was using my NMFSH to chop down 1"-4" pine trees and remember you talking about <insert sarcastic voice> How great your rucks and AK's where at chopping and that you are soooooooo happy <end sarcasm> Hahaha :D :p The FSH did alright though I have a couple blisters that relieved themselves on their own

The nmfsh is a much better all arounder but the ak would have destroyed that pine leaving you unsatisfied:eek:

You might have had to kill a couple more trees:p

;):D

The combat grade Bussekin sword like objects (that's the term they use on the Sword forum) all have a pretty obtuse edge profile, and can certainly benefit from some judicial thinning to a narrower edge angle. I never used the AK before it was sold, but my Ruck and Waki both were convexed with the HF 1x30, and that did improve their cutting performance.

I've got a few more hillsides to clear out. The AK would be fun cause I'm working in an upscale gated community and my old beater truck with nothing saying I'm a landscaper probably has some people wondering lol. :D I don't have a sheath for the FSH yet so I tried to be as casual and non-conspicuous as possible lol.

On a side note, I still crack up about the Predator quote at blade about T-Rex haha

Have you convexed any of your choppers and found an advantage?

Done.

Convexed the edge. No problems. It's shaving sharp, but not too thin. I didn't make a really shallow angled edge, and left the inch below the tip alone so it'll still be a good penetrator.

If I had a bad experience convexing, I would let some one else handle the AK. That is a lot of edge length to mess up.

I have done it by hand with a Ash1cg, FBMLE (that was a beast to convex by hand on sandpaper!), SarQ, BAD, and a few others.

I have used my belt sander on a B11, and KZII, and man did it save some hellacious time!

Of course, I did not just jump in on the KZII with the old belt sander. I have done a lot of other knives, hawks, and a magnum Khukri machete from CS (which was great practice for that blade shape).

You can convex and edge, and get better performance on the blade without making the edge weak.

The edge on my B11 (last 4 inches or so) and the last 5 or so inches on my KZII would not cut a full 16 ounce bottle (or 2 liter bottles etc). It would just bounce off.

A few minutes on the old belt sander, and slick as you please, slicing through a handful at a time!

It makes a huge difference!!!!!!!

The first time you take a belt sander to Infi is a bit nerve wracking!
