AKI 2008 show review, PART I

I would love to see that JWS folder sometime. Thanks for the review!

Be happy to show it to you, if we are in the same place sometime.

Jones and Gill are your men for online pix.......I'm too secretive to show more than a select few pieces, and this one is definitely not one of them.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Steven,

Great write-up. I was speaking with Steve Johnson and two interesting things he told me about the AKI Chute.

1. The stock was 5/16" and one of the biggest in width he has done for a chute.
2. The Chute only had a swedge grind on one side and from the other side the blade was like a fighter. An interesting choice that I had not seen before and my personal jury is still out on it.

I thought it was a great show and loved Tim Hancock's knives in particular!

Best to all.

STeven, thanks for the excellent review. Glad you stopped by and chatted this year. I appreciate the kind words about my work and The Buster award. I was really surprised to receive this honor. The smoker's knife was a challenge!!
Coop, thanks for the great pictures.
Everyone had a great show. As STeven has described there were some great knives by some fantastic knifemakers.

Mr. Taylor, That is one great looking knife, wish I could have seen it in person.

STeven thanks for the show review.

Take Care
Charles

I bet you didn't share your toys as a kid either? ;) :D :D :)

Hi Gabe,

Michael's "Bid Up" knife sold for $52,000.

Not sure about the other two.

It's great for the customs industry that there are individuals willing to pay that kind of money for a beautiful knife. Bravo for the proud owner. :)

Larry Fuegen had, IMO, the best work in the room this year. Gentleman's Bowie was heart breaking....heavily sculpted coffee and cream fossil ivory, with a fantastic damascus blae, and sculpted guard in Larry's signature Art Nouveau style with awesome sheath to match.

I wonder who picked that one up from KnifeArt....it was gone in a heartbeat.

I wonder if he is going to use it?:D:D

Is it an investment, or a hobby?

It could be chopping up someone's dinner as we speak. ;) :D:D

I would like to see Tim Hancock's Hunter and Cowboy Bowie if anyone has photos.

I wish you had been there, Mishnock, Pete was looking forward to seeing your face. Gotta' be in 2009.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Mishnock? Why don't I get it? What's it mean? Are we talking about tatoo Pete?

"Ask Mishnock what you can do for your country!".......Lake Mishnock Diner.....do you remember? Mishnock Mike is one of three names we have for you.

Duh....yes, tattoo Pete. Guy has been my business partner since 1992.

Best Regards,

Yep, it's all coming back to me bro. Good times. I sent my luggage and knives ahead of me to find out my luggage was being held up in some UPS hub. No UPS service in about 30 zip codes. Supervisors had no idea when I could expect my luggage and they suggested my luggage get sent right back to FL before it got lost in the shuffle and could take weeks to get delivered. That was that. I planned on staying for a week and make a vacation out of this trip. Till 2009 I guess:thumbup:

I know something about that knife and the price it fetched.
You can buy one helluvlot of cuban seegars for that price.

I do love the cuban seegars, but I would enjoy having that knife even more. There are very few craftsmen like Gray Taylor on the face of the planet.

Thanks for the kind words.
C Gray Taylor

Are all the knives photographed "officially", and are the photos then posted somewhere? I would love to see the Jurgen Steinau pieces... Can't believe you nearly got one STeven.
