Knives and Things has a production Wortac auto made by Al Mar. I am a big fan of Pat Crawford's knives. The Wortac, designed by Kelly Worden, has been at the top of my list for quite awhile. I had no idea that Al Mar was going to make a production version.

I wonder if their are plans to make a manual version with similar construction to the SERE 2000? Wouldn't that be the $hit?

Here is a pic of the auto:

That is definitely a nice piece! I receieved that photo in an e-mail from Midwest today and I'm exited to see it in person. A hope a manual version is on the horizon.

That's pretty cool! Timberline Knives will be releasing their manual version of the Wortac in about 4 weeks, built in the same construction as the CRKT Kasper with an AUS-8 blade, double 420J2 liners, and Zytel scales. Two sizes large and small. Looks a lot like the custom version it's scary!

I guess that means we wont see an Al Mar manual Wortac.

The Timberline sounds OK, but an Al Mar version with G-10 scales, thick stainless liners, and VG-10 blade steel would have been soooooo nice.

Dennis,
Know who is making the auto? Is it being made by Al Mar or is it being cobbled uh.. I mean constructed by Paragon?
Pat has some really outstanding designs. I have a large Kasper folder with stag handles under the tree. I also have a larger Covert on order. I really like Pat's work, and like you would love to find a Wortac. Yep an Al Mar Wortac constructed like the SERE would be outstanding. Thick liners for secure lockup and an action as slick as glass would look great on that design.
Don't mean to slam Paragon, but I have never had any luck with their products. Always sloppy lockup but terrific designs. Auto SERE is a prime example!

BTW Dennis, if you didn't see my other note, expect a visit from UPS on Monday, if the snow don't stop 'em! Again , sorry!!

By the way,

I saw the Pre-Production WORTAC at the Timberline Booth in Atlanta. It is stout. I actually thought it was a bead blasted, black micarta WORTAC with no bolster at first.

It was a really nice knife. I was told that the Production will be better then the Pre-Pro, I don't know how they will do that, but eagerly await it.

And...$209.00 for that AMK is a steal as long as she fires and locks up good.

I wouldn't count on tight lockup! You'll get a good fast fire though. Of course I could be wrong, and Paragon may have the lockup right on this one. My momma always taught me to say something nice when you have to say something not so nice!

Designed by Worden, original made by Crawford but the Mar blades ground by Corby? Am I missing something here?
Bob

We thought the same thing about Corby grinding the blade. It does not make much since. If someone finds out different let us know and we will check into it further as well.

I think that Corby grinds some special runs for Paragon. Must have something to do with the collaboration between the two, i.e. Cobra.

Eric,

Isn't the Internet wonderful where a man in Maryland can share ATS-34/Black Micarta joy with a man all the way cross the world? HA HA HA

Now, I want a Crawford Kasper Fighting Folder to match it. Black Micarta, no bolsters, satin finish blade.

The WORTAC and the KFF, both full size, are incredible knives...

Don,

Yes! The internet is indeed a wonderful place where people from around the world are brought closer at a mere touch of a button.....hence sharing the joy of owning a custom Wortac.

The Crawford lines are indeed work horse tacticals which are stoutly made and beautiful. I own 2 full size KFF that are excellent in fit and finish. Value for money indeed!

Here's a pix of them:

Made by Bud Nealy. 4.5" Daryl Meier "Clad" Damascus blade. Buckeye burl scales.

And it'll never fold.

I like the Kasper design as well, but I currently have that in a Polkowski straight knife:

Wow, too weird! I just talked to Wes Crawford last week about making a Wortac for me........see photo
<img src=http://members.aol.com/kingknives/wortac.jpg>

I'll have to wait till after Christmas to order it, but I was just thinking today, "wouldn't be nice if they could pop a spring in it and make it an auto" (I didn't even know Al-Mar was making one, I swear)...

Does anyone know of Crawford does auto's. I'll have to call them and check. It would look great with a thumb-stud-less Damascus Blade and a Damascus button. MMmmm sweeeeet!!
