Great pics! Nice camera too :D

What was it like carting around all you camera gear in the wilderness? Any room for knives too? I've been trying to get out into the woods more with my 50D but I don't want to leave behind my prized 'camping tools'.

It was actually awful caring all that weight in camera gear. Anyone who knows me knows that I hate weight while hiking in the woods or even traveling through an airport. This is why I often use my Canon G10 as my main camera. It is lighter (not light) than a D-SLR and at 14.7Megapixles, can be used in Manual mode, AV (Aperture priority), and TV (Shutter priority). It features their top of the line Digic 4 processor (which is the same as the 5D, 7D) and is smaller than a full blown D-SLR which helps the “hey look at me over here with a big ass camera look.” This is helpful especially in Muslim countries where it is not always wise to take pictures of people. In Alexandria, Egypt last year I was told by someone on the street to stop taking pictures and of course what did I do? I took them using my Canon G10 without sacrificing too much. In the woods you still have to carry a survival kit and mine was with me always with a good knife.

The lenses weigh a lot and changing them is something I will never develop patience for. The 50D is a good camera, you just can’t beat the speed of crop sensor cameras over full frame, not to mention the fact that our lenses are already zoomed in to some degree with the APS-C sensors.

I hear you on the weight issue. I've got 70-200 F4 IS that weighs a ton, great for the zoo but everything else is major pain. I have huge respect for those mad bird watcher types that carry out 600mm lenses plus tripod into the wilderness. I think if I ever go hiking with the 50D I'll take my 30mm 1.4 and be done with it.

I've been waiting for Canon to release an E.V.I.L. model but I might check out the G10. At least then you don't have to change lenses in public which always makes me feel like my pants are around my ankles for some reason.

Thanks for the pics and memory's Bro!!! Used to live down on Prince of Wales Island, 32 air miles west of Ketchikan. Been in Alaska since 84 and live up in Wasilla north of Anchorage now. Seatheast has and is IMHO some of the most beautiful land on the planet. Spent 4.5 years in Europe and been all over Central American, but man I love it down there.
Thanks for the post...
