Hi guys! i just ordered a tangia alcohol stove, whats youre take on these? i saw the reviews on youtube and it seems pretty darn good for the money, what else brands out there would you guys recommend. i really dont care for the soda pop models cause of the simple fact that they crush to easy. so if there are any other more durable models out there list em here. i think i may start collecting these along with my knives.

You're going to love the Trangia. I have mine as part of the Trangia Mini Kit. It boils water pretty quick. What's really nice about it is that you can store it full and it has a "simmer ring" which will allow you to somewhat control your temperature. Just make sure that you use some sort of windscreen when you can't get into a calm area.

Did you get a stand with it?

A friend gave me an old Trangia Swedish Military stove set. Heavy as a tank, and just as tough.
I used it this past weekend as my primary stove for cooking. Temps were in the low 'teens, and the old stove worked fastastic. The fuel I used was HEET in the yellow bottle.

I have a ton of single burner camp stoves But my trangia is my favorite. I have the 27 series bought it off ebay before trangias were commonly available in the U.S. It is quiet simple and old school cool :D

The trangia is hard to beat for alky stoves with a sturdy burner. The best feature of the trangia burner is that it has a screw on cap, which lets you save your un-burned fuel for later. Or, if you're just doing a day hike, you can fill the stove up with fuel and not worry about carrying a separate fuel bottle. Really awesome.

I originally had the Trangia Mini - but the stand that comes with it sucks, and you really need to make your own windscreen to go with it. Instead, I upgraded to the clikstand - it's a click together stainless steel pot stand / stove holder that is designed to assist air flow. It greatly improves the efficiency of the Trangia burner - my boil times were cut in half once I upgraded to the clikstand. Also pretty convenient, the clikstand can be used as a wood stove in a pinch, if you run out of fuel.

You can see more info on it at http://www.clikstand.com

And if you're interested, here's a thread I posted in W&SS about using the clikstand as a wood stove:

This is an alcohol stove I have and I like it quite well.

I did a search to see if they're still available (no luck) but found this, which I found interesting.

I am thinking about a Trangia in the future, though. I like the sealable cap feature. I found that they are available as a separate piece at MEC (for my fellow Canadians).

Can't beat 'em!

Serves double duty - the Ti Pot works equally well on a campfire as well as on the Trangia.

Curses on all of you! After seeing this thread, I had to have a Trangia. Being able to keep fuel in the stove is a very nice feature.

I bought the kit with the interlocking stand (3 straight pieces), but I saw where I could pick up the mini-stand/wind break (pictured in the last post) from the same seller for $5. I'll give them both a whirl.

I have the same Titan Kettle as above and was impressed with how everything nested.

Quick question: Can anybody tell me burn time when the Trangia is full of fuel?

just got confirmation that mines on its way. i cant wait and try the thing out. the thing i really like about the alcohol stoves versus the propane type is the simplicity.:)

+1. I like the little Super Cat I made. And I have a Brasslite that works very well. But I do have to carry a separate fuel bottle with them both.

I haven't timed the burn time with a completely full burner... BUT there is a really cool extra feature that comes with the Trangia. It's a small adjustable simmer ring, which can significantly cut down the intensity of the flames and extend your burn time. I've used it to make scrambled eggs in a small frying pan, so it's pretty handy.

And since you're getting multiple stands, guyon, you should try the clikstand too. :D I'm a complete clikstand addict - love the thing. It took me from being completely underwhelmed with the Trangia to absolutely in love with it.

I looked at the Clickstand site. I may give one a try after I've used the stove a bit. Thanks for the link and recommendation.

A full trangia burner probably goes 30 minutes at full blast. With the simmer ring, it'll go a lot longer.

White Box stove for me. It and Starbucks Via instant coffee have made me a happy camper :)

About the screw on cap. I don't know or have heard of anyone actually using it (anymore) to store and transport extra fuel here in Finland. It is basically regarded as a big no-no. Eventually the O-ring will fail and you'll have fuel all over the pots, your gear and hands. And as we mostly use denatured spirits as fuel no one wants to risk it.
