alcohol stove

+1 on the white box stove although mine doesn't have those rivets sticking out.

Since the burn holes are on the side it's easy to kick a flat spot to rest it on and just put a cup directly on the stove.

I have a Trangia and that's a lot heavier so I only use it on trips where I'm doing more than just boiling 16-18oz of water at a time.

I think his newer models are folded, so no more rivets. An improvement. When did you get yours?

Guyon, If you have a Bed Bath and Beyond store. Go look in the aisle that they sell all the trial size shampoo and toothpaste. Most times they have those little flip top bottles to conform to the new TSA requirements. They are like .99 cents. no shipping

Dangit, now I'm looking at the White Box stoves too. You guys have the new Solo model?

Thanks for the BB&B tip.

I've used a White Box stove when travelling in my car across Europe. It's very compact indeed,is practical and boils up water surprisingly fast:thumbup:

The disadvandtage is that it can take some time to get properly lit, could be the grade of fuel I use,it also takes some getting used to calculating the amount of spirit to put in. Nevertheless, an economical and very credible boiler:thumbup:

Try MiniBullDesign for his alcohol stoves. He has plenty of videos on Youtube. He has progressed passed the can stoves and is now making machined alum. alcohol stoves. He has a site and store. I enjoy watching his videos and learn a lot about stoves. I would have his if I hadn't built my own.

He is a backpacker and interested in keeping weight to a minimum so he has practical knowledge in the field. Tinny, lives in Maine so he gets to hike in the snow quite a lot.

I am not in any way connected with this business but just like talent when I see it.

I think it was two, maybe three years ago when I got the White Box stove. Mine is just folded without any rivets.

Not sure what "model" it is. It has a 2" diameter opening and stands about 2-1/16" high. I weighed it at 0.8oz/25gr.

I just like being able to put a cup to boil water right on top of the stove without setting a pot stand. Unless there is no breeze at all I always use a foil wind screen around it.

HEY Revolverman
the new rubber o-rings work in the older military trangia & svea alcohol burners. the new simmer rings have a diffrent thred pattern but can be made to work. old and new caps won't inter change

Thanks for the reply, Mike, I want to have a spare 0-ring and I would really like to have a simmer ring for my military stove, but not sure what to do. I may order one of the newer ones and try to use/modify to fit. Not to hijack this thread, but any suggestions?

I make my own white box stoves. They really are fun to use and weigh next to nothing. My latest versions [not pictured] stand 2 inches high and I use 3 rivet construction. If all you want to do is get a rolling boil going or heat a quick meal on the trail, these alcohol stoves will do the trick. No pot stand required, but you do need a windscreen. Nice stuff guys, keep it coming:)

Those look good Iuk12. However, I could not bear to buy budlight beer. I'd feel more comfortable buying tampons that buying budlight beer :D

Agreed, I let the wife consume it. Keeps her away from my Sam Adams Lager:D

Dang things are as addictive as knives.

To date, I have a Brasslite, a Trangia, and (just ordered) a White Box SOLO.

I've made two or three SuperCats.

Now I want to try making some beer can/bottle stoves.

ADDICTIVE in a understatment! to date i have a whitebox stove, 2 trangias, 2 trangia 27-3 cookset, and a whisperlite on the way. and its been only a week since i started:eek:

Addictive for sure, thankful they don't require the big bucks required for knives.

Nice stoves.

I'm going to give one of these a whirl after I get my White Box and peer at it.

I'd prefer a shiny aluminum look. How do you think the bottle would react to stripper?

He has a good review of the White Box, and he doesn't mince words. :p

I like that guys videos.

In the comments I saw something very good,

"He uses Ethanol and Methanol varieties of alcohol. You can use denatured alcohol from a hardware store or HEET from and auto store or brake-line antifreeze from a truck stop.
They are all clear and colorless. The color is food coloring added to see spills and because we often use old water bottles, is to identify the fluid as NOT water."

Thats a great tip!

Just use a little wet dry sandpaper and the finish comes right off the can.
