This is just a caution flag and will retract it if the money order
actually shows up. This member tried to purchase two production knives from me and game me a little song and dance on my address and on what the GBU forum was, and on the types of knives, and...

Well, he assured me the m.o. was sent a week ago and I got the feeling he wanted me to send the knives but....I didn't. And the m.o. is still not here. Either very slow mail or something is not right.

Like I said, I will apologize if he is on the up and up but it just seems fishy. Have to wait and see I guess.

Yor are probably right that it is a little premature--just had a strange feeling on many of the comments...like what is this GBU thingy
and......well, why get into it now. I hope the money order arrives and the USPS is just being itself. Thought maybe someone else had dealt with this member before and could help me with his status.

Fastjack,

I did a partial trade with Giantsquidspermwhale in December of 2002. I would like to say that it went smoothly, however, communications were slow and tedious and the final payment didn't come through until 6 months later. Along the way I received several commitments for payment, several partial payments, and even several offers to forget the knife and keep the partial payments along with his appology. He is a real person and he will eventually come through, but it seems his enthusiam sometimes gets the better of him and he over commits.

Thanks N2S.....this explains many of the comments and the slowness
of the payment. Nice to know this transaction could work out.

Thanks N2S, you are completely accurate about our transaction. He was also more than patient above and beyond, etc. I thought I apologized. N2S if you feel I should compensate you for our transaction, Email me with a fair proposal and I will make it so.

Song and Dance? I am not at all dancing or singing now that a good amount of my money is floating about in some mysterious realm. FastJack you did not include a house number in the shipping address you originaly Emailed me. I requested it again, you gave it. I told you if you weren't comfortable sending the knives before you recieved my MO, I understand. I guess it's a good thing you didn't, or this thread might be even uglier about me. I emailed I would take the green and black handled osbournes if they were NIB (that's right I used an acronym). He replyed I had first dibs on them, than I was asked if I wanted the BLUE and Black handled ones, which I replied no, the green and black. I was than informed the blue one is nicer than the green one and the green was promised to someone else, he'd see if he could talk to whoever he promised it to. I told him I understand, if he couldn't get me the green, blue would do. I thought I was being accomadating.
I didn't know what GBU stood for, fastJack is absolutely correct. I didn't even know what IMO, ROTFLMAO, etc. meant until I had my Computer Science majoring roomate (who had his heart set on a green handle) explain it to me. Bladeforums is the first and only Message board I have posted on. Ever. I don't even chat. My roomate laughs about me using dialup. Sorry.
I have emailed a a picture of my MO reciept and entire postal transaction reciept for MO and a stamped envelope to FastJack which I will not post yet. Or should I? I am not sure it is appropriate to do so. Looking at the two, I wonder how I could have forgotten to mail it while I was at the PO. If anyone has any suggestions, barring aboting the transaction, I would appreciate it.

FastJack I respect your good standing on BF transactions and understand how your for sale thread got so busy. I hope this is not taken as ranting or hostile, I am merely trying to give an explanation IMHO;)

So you managed to wait an entire week before starting this thread?
And warning people about what? If his MO does not show up, your still not out anything.

I would not deal with you fastjack, after seeing what you get up to here.

Sorry Mikemck that you are so quick to judge me without seeing many of the other emails that were sent between EaseWryder and myself. We probably could have made some great trades. But, to move on, I am not going to get into "he said" "I said." I do not save the emails but then I have never had a problem before either-so why would I do it? And those members who have traded with me know I am upfront and like to make sure all is in order on trades and everyone is perfectly happy. And honestly, I felt that Easewryder was not being upfront with me on this deal. In spite of this feeling, I have kept the knives this whole time for him and have emailed him each day saying I hope the funds arrive because I still wanted him to have the knives-even though I have had many other inquiries on the knives from other members who were willing to send me money right away.

I have (I feel) made a positive effort to give Easewryder the benefit of the doubt.....and as of today (Monday the 22th)the money order has not arrived.

Sooooo, if Easewryder has actually sent the money order and it has disappeared in our Postal Service (very possible) then I definitely apologize. If the other side of this story is true, then it saddens me.

Does anyone know what should be done if a money order is lost in the mail?????

I can tell you from forst hand experience that the Postal system can be extremely erratic. I sent a knife to someone recently and on the same day he sent me money orders. The knife arrived at his home in six days. It took seventeen days for the money orders to get to me.

If the money order doesn't arrive in three weeks then I would recommend that if the deal is still to go ahead, EasEWryder should send another. He should then report the money order as being lost. He will then have to wait the required length of time for the Post Office to consider the money order lost. At that point he will get a refund.

Sounds like this post might be alittle premature. A week is not that long when it comes to the Post Office.

I need to disagree with this statement. I've been buying, selling and trading knives cross country for years and, as long as I've used 1st class mail or better, it's never taken a week.

(I regularly send and receive packages to and from England (East Sussex) and it rarely takes more than 6 or 7 days.)

Fastjack,

In this case, I don't need to see them. You sent nothing, and he said he sent the MO. You waited a week, and then posted an alert with his name in the subject.
That's all pretty clear.

Usually though, I do like to see actual emails when one person says one thing and the other is saying something completely different.

That's just not the case here.

True Mikemck--I sent nothing and you say I lost nothing.....................nothing except the sale of both of the knives I still have. There were many other inquiries about the knives and I still have them because I gave Easewryder the benefit of the doubt. And the alert was just an alert and I did state that I would apologize if there was just a simple mix-up and I still will.
So, when does one post a GBU? Two weeks, three weeks, or maybe when one is trying to protect other members????? In a response I received it took Easewryder 6 MONTHS to make good on a deal--so am I wrong for being suspicious? He only lives 500 miles from me---and it has now been 12 days with no money order. You know, I sure hope the money order shows up, because I want to think that all forum members are honest.

Nothing personal Keith, but I can only agree that the Canadian Postal Service is glacial in its performance. On this side of the border, with very, very few exceptions, USPS is fast and consistent. Packages I send to the East Coast typically arrive in two or three days via priority and within 5 days via first class. Standard envelopes (say like for money orders) typically take 3 days maximum anywhere in the country. There are always exceptions of course.

Regarding the orignal topic - GSSW and I did a deal a few months ago. In our case, it was a cash transfer on the street (in San Francisco).

GSSW is a young guy - who knows what happened. I think not2sharp is pretty much accurate in his analysis.

FastJack, why don't you post the picture I sent you so maybe this thread could also be used to analyze how good a receipt couterfeiter I am.:)

Having a receipt for a money order and actually sending it just might be two different issues. Hey, I told you I was concerned that the money order was lost in our Postal Service and I offered to help to try to recover the lost m.o. from this end. So, rather than drag this thread out, do you want my help or not? And, we might as well forget this transaction and move on. If the money order shows up I will reimburse you for the money so you will not lose anything.
Sorry this all had to happen. Enjoy the forum and have fun collecting your knives.

I had an M/O sent to me in MI from PA (about a 3 hour drive). after 60 days... the Post Office agreed it had lost it...
It happens, and I would personally wait longer than a week before posting the persons name.
...just my 2 cents... YMMV:)

No. Your help is welcomed. If I purchase an MO (made out to you) and a stamped envelope- in a post office- and do not send it then and there, what do I hope to gain? Aborting this transaction is unacceptable. Patience is a virtue. The picture I sent you clearly shows the date on BOTH receipts.

This sounds fair, and I will agree to this. A deal is a deal, and I feel you are overreacting for someone who has:
- two items STILL in his possession, easily sellable
- a money order on the way
- a better reputation on the GBU

I appreciate your help.:)

Hi Bobby B-thanks for your two cents. And the "alert" was not based on only the missing money order, but also on the emails that were sent back and forth between Easewryder and myself. There was something about the emails that made me cautious---and then when the money order did not arrive and still has not arrived, I wanted to find out it anyone else had had problems with this member. AND, I did find out that there was a problem with another trade. So, either the money order is lost or my gut feeling that something is not right with this transaction is correct. I guess I should have saved the emails betweens us but I have not had a trade or sale go south yet.I have completed many deals with other members the last two years and never had even a hint of a problem. Guess my time was due.

Oh well, I hope the money order shows up and this mess can be put behind us.

Just a note for everybody's information: email is just text; it takes up practically no space on your hard drive. If you never delete an email again and get a hundred emails a day, it'll take thousands of years to fill up your hard drive ... and by that time you'll have gotten a bigger one. If you don't want to keep it in your inbox move it to a folder you can name "old email" instead of moving it to the trash folder.
