Alfred from Austria ?

After seeing this thread about "Al from Austria", it seemed appropriate to place a post. [Thanks Vince]

I’ve received many e-mails and inquiries from him regarding some knives I had posted for sale on the forums. He pestered me with many questions (including blade length requests when a ruler/yardstick is in the pic right next to the knives), many pic requests, and also prices for various combinations of knives.
He's mostly just a "tire kicker" and rarely, if ever, buys anything.
My recommendation: Don't get in a dialogue with this guy. He's polite and seems nice, but is definitely just a 'tire kicker'...

Please note that the first e-mails received from him were signed "Al" with the e-mail address of “zingzong”<Thomas_muster@gmx.at>. Then, I got an inquiry from a guy with the SAME e-mail address and this time he signed it "Thomas".
If you look at zingzong2005 on BladeForums, you'll see that his e-mail addy says thomas_muster@gmx.at.

My opinion is that I really don't think the guy is a crook, he's probably just newbie collector who just has started and doesn't know how things work on the forums, doesn’t know proper netiquette, and doesn’t mind collecting anything and everything if he can get a good price on it.

That said, I am glad that more people are now aware of Al's/Thomas' behavior. I was surprised to read that he is sending out 'form letter' e-mails and blindly soliciting people... Not good...

Mike

Thomas Muster is the name of a successful Austrian tennis player, so he might have chosen this name because he's a fan or just for giggles or something. Yeah, it sounds strange, but it might be an explanation why the names don't match.

Anyhow, he e-mailed me agai tonight, this time saying that he is a real person, not a scam, and got my name on B.F. He says he just wants to buy knives from me.The knives I am selling are listed, either buy them,or go back to Austria,or wherever it is you came from. What do you think?

Well, I may be one of the few that "Al from Austria" has actually bought from. I ignored his original e-mail/form letter, but he persisted.. and persisted. It sure was a lot of work for just selling a knife or two.
