I am more of a folder guy and spend my knife money on Spyderco's primarily, but with the camping season coming up, I want to get a proper fixed blade. I have some Winchester or something that is decent I guess, but you know I want something I can be proud of. I do not know if a Becker is what I will get, but if I go with that which one do you think I should get or about what size should I get? I do not plan to necessarily carry it while hiking so it will be thrown in a pack and then just kept around the campsite (think car camping, so not really needing a survival specialist or anything). I will be batoning and shaving off pieces as well so a gigantic chopper is not what I had in mind. Becker seems to have a strong and loyal following so what do you guys think my one car-camping Becker should be?

If you don't need a big chopper definitely go with the BK2 Campanion. It sounds like it would be perfect for what you need. I love mine.

I would have to say the bk2 or bk10(but those are discontinued now). Those are the only 2 I have now but I think you would also be well served with a bk7 or bk5.

If you can only have one, it's BK2 every time. Though the 16, when production runs are available, might be the new "if you can have just one". I have heard Mr Becker say that the BK2 is the number one seller. With the 11 being second. It's a beast.

I have a BK7 and bought it for this precise purpose. I still think it's the best of the options, but I have this feeling that i'm going to end up with a BK9 too...

Wrong. 9,9,9!!!

Went on a survival test outing yestrady and took everything. I ALWAYS end up giving in to grabbing the BK9. Its the best batoner, the best chopper (was getting tired trying to chop some oak with my hawk, and had to go to the 9, it just plain WORKS.

From yesterday:

the best one is the one you have with you :)

I'd go with the 9. Sounds like you'll have a nice spidie on you any way for "delicate" work, which a 9 is surprisingly decent at too. I'd like to hear what you end up with... I think you'll be in good shape with any of them...

Bk5. Best all arounder in the camp. Bk2 is great but a little heavy artillery for car camping

BK2 is a great knife... first knife to give me stitches (i am kinda young)

i like the look of that marine knife (3rd one down) C tanner... is it a decent knife?

Are we doing this again? I'm down, Bk4 but I never just have it with me. The one I always have with me is my 14, I always have a BK7 in my SAR bag in the car as well as my Patrol Machete just in the back of the car (booby trapped of course). But if I get to pick the one knife, Machax.
