There is a reason its called the king ;)

BK-4 (Machax - soon to be available), my all-time favourite knife, or a BK-9 (finally bought one last week - nice knife).

Used to have a BK-7 - sold it. Have a BK-2 - don't like it. Get the 9 (or the 4). Hard to beat it as a camp knife.

Doc

BK2 makes easy work of everything. Get it professionally sharpened with a nice convex edge and you will thank yourself!

2 is a bit heavy for my tastes. I'd say, look through the knives and pick the design that calls to you the most. Buying a Becker is pretty much like buying any other knife. If you didn't buy the one you really wanted and liked the looks of, you're not likely to be happy until you end up getting it. Good luck only getting one though...

My favorite in my collection is the 10. If I had to buy only one, I'd probably go 9 or 7, or maybe even Machax. At least until the 16 arrives. That's gonna be a sweet knife.

I'm surprised so many BeckerHeads missed the obvious here. The OP is a car camper. The ONLY Becker that's going to get him out of that car is a BK3 Tac -Tool.

After he pries himself out of the car with the BK3, for real camping, I gotta go with the 9 for best *all-around* camp knife. But if you're not going to chop, I guess the 2 would be better, but then again, its thickness doesn't lend itself to *best* of the Becker line for fuzz-sticks either. Maybe a 14 for that task, but you're compromising there too. You could get by with fuzzin' up some twigs with either a 2 or a 9, but you'd be hard pressed to dig a decent latrine hole with a 14 or 11. Go big or go home.

Blues

For car camping and the like, a tweener. A 9 is kind of overkill a 2 is too heavy for just car camping type stuff. Gimme a tweener any day for just camp chores, after that a 5. Going real camping, machaxness every day all day.

My favorite Becker for camping is Ethan. He makes cool knives and he is reminiscent of a long lost uncle or grandfather.

The bk2 is too heavy and too thick.

The bk9 is more of a chopper than a slicer so you might as well have the bk5. If the bk5 is too big then there is the new bk15 which just might be the ideal camp knife.

I would say a 16, or an 11, or a 14 which is an 11 with an Izula (ESEE brand) handle (that means the 14 does not have the bottle/can tab opener), but a BK 2 is overkill, unless you want to field dress your car, and a BK 9 is just to big for what you're gonna do within a mile of your car....

The 11 you get a neck knife (hence the name) with a skeletal handle and on said handle is a bottle/can tab opener, so a paracord wrap is ideal, but I don't like the (kydex self retention) sheath by itself, unless you wear it as a neck knife, it's probably on your belt or piggybacking off of a larger BK, if it's on your belt, then you have a couple easy options, option 1: no more expenses beyond the knife itself, paracord belt and/or backpack strap loops of your choice, option 2: a $10 TDI clip from Ka-Bar, vertical carry option only, which if your like me, then you don't like handles in your side, option 3: TDI clip on your packstraps or MOLLE/PALS webbing, for horizontal or vertical carry respectively. You can also add additional retention with paracord and a fishermans knot in the bottle/can tab opener, or with some bungee cord (like 1/8 in. diameter).

The 16 you get a nice knife for everything, with new black zytel handles (ooo!) and on top of that, a second set of tan zytel handles (aaa!), a tan cordura sheath (I think it's actual 1000 Denier cordura, not cheap nylon) with not one, but TWO snap retention straps! You can also attach it to the MOLLE or PALS webbing systems on your pack for quick access when it's not on your belt, or add a leg strap to secure it to your thigh while running. The sheath also has a front pouch (I don't know how big it is, but it's not to small for a spydie to ride in), and the cordura is dyeable, so if you don't like the tan, you can go with a darker color. The only downside I see to the 16 right now, is that it may be a safe queen (unused, ever...) for you because it's only the first production run right now and it has been laser etched with "First Production Run" and Mr. Becker's signature, so I don't know if you can bare to do that to a piece of Ka-Bar history, I can, but that's just me (I work at Boy Scout summer camp, I can do a lot of things most people can't do, emotionally).

All three are capable of a tanyard (lanyard attached at the end of the tang, designed for either your entire wrist, or just your pinky if you want a 3 fingered grip for chopping [not recommended for the 11/14]), and all 3 are GREAT bush crafting/camp chore knives, and I am really looking forward to see what you choose, and I hope you stick around, it's a lot of fun here.

Off topic:
BK2 is a great knife... first knife to give me stitches (i am kinda young)

Same here Mej, except I got glue because my Scoutmaster didn't think it was worthy of the ER at 7:30 at night, great knife to lose your stitch virginity to, isn't it? I cut my thumb to the bone first time using it outside, didn't even feel it till I wrapped it!

C_Tanner, what the hell is that becker on the bottom, and who should i send my check to!?

Thats my only non-KABAR made blade I take in the Bush...it's a Blind Horse Machete. Blade is made for them by Imacasa, the king of El Salvardoran machete steel. It's a bad bitch!

i like the look of that marine knife (3rd one down) C tanner... is it a decent knife?

It's an awesome knife. I love mine. It's hands down the best mid-range, multi-task knife out there....until the FFG BK16 comes out. I DO like the sheath....but I am leaning toward getting it kydexed.

The MkI is on my belt, so you can't see it....the BK9 sheath is in scout mode strapped to the molle loops on the back of my pack.

COLD this morning!!

I am going through all the post and am a little overwhelmed but think I have tons of valuable opinions and insight. Honestly, I may pick a Becker just because of the people who seem to love them so much here on the forums. Keep the comments coming and hopefully sooner rather than later I will get one that will surely lead to another and so on!
