All carbon vs. stainless steel springs

Carbon with carbon and stainless with stainless for me.

My thoughts exactly. I have a few Henckels/Bokers with stainless blades and carbon backsrpings. If I am going to go stainless, the ONLY reason is going to be so I can be lazy with maintenance. I can't be lazy if the backsprings are still carbon steel.

As luck would have it I got my first rust spots on my white owl this past week.

Take a huge ash tree blown down in the parents front yard, combine it with 90+ temps and high humidity, throw in a guy fast approaching middle age with a carbon steel knife and a chain saw and what do you get? Well I guess we all know the answer to that one. Just as I expected the parts with a tough patina were just fine. The top of the backsprings were still shiny steel and have a few pits to show for their trouble. The way it goes. :)

My follow-up question to Queen, about their backsprings on D2 knives, was answered quickly. Here's the answer:

So, there it is. Stainless springs and almost stainless blades on D2 Queens. :)

That's good information. Thanks for sharing that, David.
