All I wanted was a clip

All I wanted was a Pepsi...

I already had a few "tactical" knives I'd purchased in my 30's, mostly SOG, CRKT, and Kershaw. 8 years ago research of VG-10 brought me here. I had owned a SOG Pentagon Elite liner lock in the mid 90's, but had lost it and was trying to justify the price of a new one, and what was so special about SOG's VG10.

I ended up buying a Spyderco Gayle Bradley, CPM-M4 and have been part of the BF cult since.

Just don’t do what I did. I dived into the mid techs feet first when I started. Striders, Hinderers, Todd Begg Bodegas, Sabenzas, Sniper Bladeworks knives... that was 5 years ago. You know how many of those knives I have left? None. Traded them all off until I had nothing to show for it. Now I’ve got some discontinued ZT’s, some exclusive Benchmades and Spydercos, but have yet to break that $300 price point again. I really miss my Strider SnGs...

I bought a Kershaw Cryo I forget how many years ago and never thought about pocket knives again. Used constantly but never really thought about it or really paid much attention to it. It was just there to be used. Then the pocket clip broke. The only replacement clip I could find that fit was $25 + $5 shipping. $30. To put on a $32 knife. So I decided that it might be time for a new knife and started watching y**tube videos to get recommendations for a replacement. And you b*stards sucked me right in. I blame all of you. Who would have imagined that there is a whole group of people who are batshit crazy about pocket knives and that they have actual blade shows and gatherings. I didn't. So now on top of a Cryo with a broken clip I also have a Civivi Pintail, a SOG Terminus XR LTE, a Pro Tech Runt 5, a Pro Tech Malibu, and a Drop/Pro Tech Mordax on it's way. And that's IT. I won't buy anymore, I'm done. Unless they come out with a textured aluminum bronze Malibu, then I might consider it. Or I can find a SBR with the American Flag scales. Or maybe that Civivi Brigand with the brass scales that you can't find anymore. Or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass and can't admit that I'm hooked. Again, I blame you all. Thanks.
Happy to be of service!

I got sucked in a couple years ago. My fault though, I accept full responsibility.😁
I didn't even know all these different kinds of knives existed. I always thought collecting knives meant buying all the different versions you can find of the same old Case or Buck knife from the gun shows. Or getting suckered in to buy all those crappy knives being showcased on late night cable tv. All I wanted was a new Spyderco, since I hadn't bought one since the 90's. While searching online, I noticed all the different colors and steels and wondered why I couldn't just go buy the one I wanted. The rest is history.

Yeah you're done...
Nothing else to interest you right?

Now start chasing discontinued models that you didn’t know you wanted until they were no longer produced and impossible to find for a reasonable price on the secondary market.

&@$#!!!!

You haven't bought back up copies of your favorite knives before they go out of production yet? It doesn't sound like you're close to done to me.

I did as well. Within my first two years of being a BF member, I had a Brian Tighe custom small Tighe Rod, Strider SnG, TSF Beast, small Sebenza 21 with Bocote inlay, just to start. I no longer own any of those. I have one custom, a $345 Matt Bailey Model 2 flipper Geek edition, which was a gift to me.

Other than that, my most expensive (without mods) folder was $260. I've spent as much as $290 on OTF's.

1. Welcome to the forums.

2. You're welcome.

3. According to your OP and my math, you have 6 knives.

4. As we all know, he/she who dies with the most toys wins. You are lacking young padwan.

Sounds like you're ready for a Carothers DEK1 in D3V steel.

Isn’t that crazy how that happens? I may never spend more than $300 on a folder again, only exception being a Hinderer XM 18 in the future, and I’ll never sell or trade it off like I did the others before.
