All of a sudden I'm a knife snob.

Not sure exactly when it happened, but these days I have no interest in knives that cost less than $300 and don't have titanium or some kind of exotic materials, or unique features or design elements.

I'm not saying that a knife has to cost $300+ for me to like it, but it seems that the knives that catch my interest these days all cost over $300. I seem to have no interest in "budget" knives anymore.

I think it's a sickness. :(

The more you gain in knowledge (and knives) and the longer you stay in the hobby your preferences will change.

You might eventually come back to the "budget" stuff and things under $300, once you've hit your budget threshold and have seen "enough".

Yeah I'm right there with you. There was a discussion last year or the year before last where I vowed to buy a cheap knife and use it for awhile. I still haven't brought myself to do it yet but I will. I've not forgotten lol.

It does happen so fast. And yes, it is.

$300 for a knife is freaking nuts. There’s nothing good under $500.

Kidding! Buy what you like and can afford. Enjoy them, or sell them, move on to something else, or loop back as often as you like. Life is shorter every day.
$300 seems to be the minimum. I haven't found the top end yet, but I have an Hinderer that cost me $600, and another that was $500.

I'm considering a CRK for my next purchase, and won't think twice about dropping 5 to 6 hundo on it.

Been looking at Medford lately too.

and Les George, and...

...I really think I have a problem.

Don’t worry.. we will enable you into bankruptcy but you’ll have some bad ass knives 😂

ive become a snob too.....different kind though.....

I'm only really impressed anymore with a maker who makes a high quality knife with good materials and can sell it so normal working folks can afford to buy it and use it.......

Sadly every year there seems to be less and less that impress me.........

the problem is when the obsession overcomes the bank account
I never have, and never will let that happen. I'm just at the point where instead of buying a $50-$100 knife every payday just to get a "fix", I would rather save my pennies for a while and buy a really nice knife every few months.

for instance, I just bought my fourth Hinderer yesterday. It has taken me a year to get that many.

I paid $187.50 for the Cold Steel 3V Ti AD-10 and I'm not a bit sorry .

But that's way over my normal limit , closer to $100 and rarely peaking at ~$150 .

IMO , diminishing returns really kicks in beyond this level .

And: $300-500 plus is just not in my entertainment /hobby budget .

Stops being any fun for me, if it becomes a financial burden . 🤨

I have a couple I hold on to but other than that I kind of go through knives cuz I can usually sell them for about what I paid for them, sometimes more. So I enjoy trying out different knives
