I've gone through phases on this price issue. To start I was one of those people that didn't see the point paying too much beyond $20 for a knife. I should admit that was several decades ago now... But eventually I bought some of the powder metal super steels. And the first thing I find is now I have to buy diamond hones to sharpen them without just wearing out hones. Then I hit a phase of those middle ground with all the VG10, 14C28N, BD1 and other middle shelf knives that were more than good enough, still easy to sharpen, and did all the jobs for half the price. Then I bough a Sebenza. And another. And another. But then I hit a wall of why put so much money into something that no way would I argue their worth but do they do anything any better??? I can look at them and see the precision in the design and material so I won't say I regret them. But I'm also right back to favoring something with some grippy G10 with a more middling supersteel that's easier to keep up like M4, K390, S30V, S35VN and so on. I sure the pendulum will swing another direction eventually.
