All scratched up in the pocket

For me, it completely depends on the knife. I don't want my fancy handled knives getting all beat up. My simpler knives, I just slide into my pocket and don't worry about it.

No slips, except for my higonokami. I just find them too annoying to have when you need to constantly access your knife. I keep my traditionals in the coin pocket of my jeans, as I wear jeans everywhere except in my home.

I have a dedicated pocket, with no other items. Left, right, front, back, sides, it all depends on what type of pants I'm wearing.

I carry my traditionals typically in my watch pocket. Recently, however, I have been carrying the Bladeforums knife in a slip clipped to my pocket. The "pocket clip" is actually just a tie clip that I fit in the pocket slip. Works really well.

The only thing that shares a pocket with my knife is a handkerchief. Scratches are NOT a problem. :D

Simple leather pocket sheath for me. Knife rides vertically right next to my cell phone. The sheath helps keep it up right and protects the knife and my phone screen.

My knife goes in the right front pocket and mixes with change and keys.

I like the look of those old, worn-smooth pocketknives. My goal is to achieve that same look with my own knives, even the nice ones.

The only time I'll use a slip is when I get fed up with dirt and such getting into the pivot. Like someone said before me, that gritty feeling when opening a blade just gives me chills, but unfortunately it is just a part of my line of work.
I really like a knife pocket worn and with a good patina, so the last thing I want to do is slow that down. But, every once in a while I will see a picture of a knife that I own that has been kept polished and clean and I will start to think about slips and what not. But then I look at all the character my knives have accumulated and I quickly snap back into reality. :D

If it's going in a pocket, then it's going to be used. I don't worry about the scratches--they're just patina w/o the oxidation.

I don't love that my knife gets scratched up being in the pocket with other stuff. But getting a sheath for a pocket knife is a tad too fussy IMO. So I deal with it...

I made a few pocket slips and used them form time to time, but now I mostly just put them in an empty pocket and change and the like in another pocket. It just so much easier to reach in, grab the knife and use it. I do use a belt sheath many times and then whatever knife i have in it has its own pocket:D Lately, I have been wearing a fanny pack and just put everything in it, in its own compartment:eek: Makes it easier to carry a fixed blade too:D

Once I decide its a keeper I put it in pocket with keys and all. Like others said at first it looks bad with only a scratch or two but scratches ding divots and patina show it was well used.

Hope to give the ones I keep to my boys one day when I am old and I would much rather them not look brand new when that happens .... Even if that is a long long time from now.

On a daily basis , I prefer to use a slip. I never know what type of stuff that I am going to have to put in a pocket. It also helps to keep moisture from perspiration affecting the carbon blades as bad to some degree. It sometimes is a pain to deal with the slip , but I just deal with it. I just prefer not to have the scratches. Differant strokes for differant folks.

I've gots me a feelin' that is the direction I will go.

I use a leather slip when i'm not wearing jeans. CollectorKnives offers a variety of sizes, colors and qualities. And all Northwoods from KSF come with a one-size-fits-most.

I have some knives I don't use but the ones I do use are treated as tools. After use I keep them clean and oiled but for me a few scratches are just added character.

I don't worry about scratches on any knife I carry in my pocket, never even thought to check to see if they are getting scratched, knives that go in my pocket are to be used. I don't carry keys or change with them though. Keys are clipped to my belt, change rides in the watch pocket, my pocket knife and a bullet space pen ride in the right front pocket.

I just drop it in my right pocket and go. Scratches and dents only serve to add character. I am not pristine or free of scars and neither are my knives. Just the natural order of things.

I only have one knife I'm concerned about getting scratched/dinged up: a Rough Rider RR915 Stoneworx stockman.
When I carry it, I put it in the leather pocket slip my Opinel #8 came in.
"Stupid", I know, but it is the prettiest knife I own.

I like the scratches they show your travel and make the knife your own. I do polish every so often to make sure it's character and not damage. But a knife is a tool to me meant to be used. I used to body my knifes till my grandfather corrected me as a kid. He showed me his thrashed sharp finger and SAK which were used for 40 years to the limit of there use. He was a mechanic and hunter. He could fix anything with that Swiss Army knife and skinned many a deer with that sharp finger. I miss him a lot before he passed he unfortunately lost them so I don't have them
