All time favorite movie

Lets see, a few more;

The Equalizer

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins RIP Fred Ward

The Quick and the Dead

Quigley Down Under

The Iron Mistress. Ok, Alan Ladd is horribly miscast, its historical fantasy, and it begs for what what we would think of as a sequel to wrap up the story. But, with all its faults the movie had a huge impact on our hobby.

Also, has anyone mentioned the original Crocodile Dundee?

My favorite changes fairly often, but I can tell you this: right now I’m watching the original Firestarter, which is one of the most disjointed, poorly scripted movies I’ve ever seen—and darnit I’m just interested enough in the storyline that I have to see how it ends! The one bright spot is Drew Barrymore—such a natural actor.

I haven't seen the movie in a very long time. Firestarter is one of my favorite Stephen King novels. If you haven't read it, and you're interested in the story line, you might read it. King's earlier novels are always better than the movies made from them.

One of my all-time favorite science-fiction movies is "Colossus: The Forbin Project". 1970.

See if this plot sounds familiar- The US creates a super computer to run the nuclear defense system, but the computer becomes self-aware, and uses it nuclear weapons to take over the world, with humans desperately trying to stop it.

There are no killer robots in it, it's cerebral sci-fi, not action sci-fi, but I really like the man-versus-computer storyline.

Another "modern favorite" as I call it is "Nightcrawler" with Jake Gyllenhaal as the very definition of the word "creepy". He plays a sociopath who gets into the business of recording bloody/violent events in LA and selling the footage to the news media. Then he starts orchestrating the events.

BLOODSPORT

Is NOT a good movie. At all. I tried. I really did. I started Karate recently and said ''Yeah! I remember BLOODSPORT! Let's give it a shot'' About 4 skips in and couldnt finish it.

I'm waiting on RED BELT to see if it's any better.....

I like that in the book King gets deeper into the character of Rainbird (played by George C. Scott in the first movie). A Native American assassin who believes that when he kills someone he gains their strength, and who wants to kill Charlie to acquire here powers.

By the way, did anyone know that there is a new "Firestarter" movie that just got released this year? I had no idea. I plan to watch it free online, but I won't get my hopes up. It's only 94 minutes long. That doesn't seem like long enough to tell a good, detailed story, particularly one taken from a novel.

EDIT: Well I just saw the new "Firestarter", and I'm sad to say IT SUCKED! Big surprise. 94 minutes of my life wasted that I could have watched a good movie. It wasn't even close to the book, or close to being a good movie. At least the first movie was somewhat close to the book. Take my word for it, if you liked the book, don't waste your time. And if you just can't resist, just remember, I warned you.

I'll edit this post to provide my review after I see it.
I happened on some reviews when I was looking for reviews of the original. It doesn’t sound like it was well received.

I will highly recommend "Fractured" I believe available from Netflix. Best I have seen in quite a while. Guys brings his wife and daughter into a hospital and they disappear. Can't say anymore but this one is a super thriller. Don't miss it!!

Has anybody seen The Northman? What did you think?
I saw it. Didn't care for it. Too much mystical/magical mumbo-jumbo for me, I felt it distracted from the story. But then I'm not a fan of mystical/magical mumbo-jumbo.

It's a revenge movie (son avenging fathers murder). But it was difficult for me to care about the main character when he was basically a murderous marauder himself (he's avenging his fathers murder, but I couldn't help but wonder how many sons fathers he had killed).

Sounds similar to The History Channel’s Vikings. I enjoyed it. I’m kind of a history geek, though.

I haven't read this whole thread so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned. A few years ago, my wife and I started watching a movie called Apocalypto directed by Mel Gibson because we thought it sounded good. I almost turned it off after a minute or two because it was obvious that the entire movie was subtitled. I despise subtitled movies and I turn them off immediately just because of that.

This movie, although subtitled, caught our attention right from the start. We ended up watching the whole thing and it is currently one of my top 5 all-time favorites despite the subtitles. An exceptionally good film and I have never said that about any other subtitled movie.

Green Mile
Django Unchained

Worked well at the end and i am sure i want to rewatch it again and again.

Just watched HUSTLE on Netflix - excellent in so many respects, even if you aren't a basketball or Adam Sandler fan, worth a watch.
Great story, very well acted.
