I emailed each of them for their thoughts on the designs

Camp Master

I'm not going to boast of being old and wise, but I've gotten to the point in my life where I'd rather spend the time and money to do something right instead of just making do. I carry a knife everyday, and always have a second close by. To me a knife is a very useful tool - dating back to my time as a Scout. I have a "what if" bag with me and a fixed blade knife is cornerstone to it. I'm also an avid camper and rely on my knife along with a hatchet, in performing my camp chores. After several failed attempts to "make do" with commercial designs, I decided that I'd have to visit the custom craftsman out there. In searching through numerous websites and magazines, I began compiling a list of features I liked instead of candidates for purchase. This had the challenge of both being dissatisfying as well as piquing my interest in something custom.

From my study of knife features, my list of "wants" included good steel, sufficient grip for my big hands, a guard of sorts for my clumsiness, large enough blade for work but not a short sword, and an integrated loop at the butt. I also developed an affection for the loveless drop point type blade. I've always been a fan/collector/user of military surplus and so anything with a more traditional military style also caught my eye -- something akin to K-Bar meets German paratrooper gravity knife.

When I first came upon JK knives, I was keen on the willingness to work with new designs, the lack of "attitude" and good selection of materials. Of John's existing designs, I liked the "Scout jr" -- especially the integrated guard and serrations on the back spine of the blade. I contacted John and discussed via email different features and capabilities. I started throwing everything I liked into a design while at work one day and next thing I knew, I was on the road to a custom build.

Once the knife arrives and I brag on it on the forum, I'll probably start it out with some yard work and a few trips into the field for work (I'm a geologist). If all goes well, it will be camping most every weekend this fall

The second design is from daniel4572, called the Viking. I have not got the email back from Daniel yet.

Loving that bottom K hiker!

interesting new designs to, the blade shape on the Viking is very cool :)

That ebony looks like rosewood - very beautiful.

Mikes design is cool - I like the thought in the design, and it came out wonderfully - I look forward to his showing it off in the forum!

The Viking has an excellent grind, I really like how the swedge and primary grind come together - I would like to see more grinds like this from Mr K - he does a nice job on them!

That Viking looks like a mean little guy, and it might not be all that little....

The Viking is around 10" overall, so not a little guy.

I like the thoughts behind the Camp master and the execution is spot on.
The grind on that Viking is wicked, that is one mean looking blade!
