ESEE needs to hurry up and get their folder out. It's getting really close to time for me to do the usual (now tradition) New Folder/Old Folder giveaway. For people who weren't around yet from the last couple, I give away my EDC folder to someone through a contest everytime I'm ready to switch to a new one.

So since ESEE has that sucker on the back burner right now, what do you guys think I should get? I like a good substantial folder with a lot of meat. Not a fan of recurves. Serrations are OK, but they have to be easy, none of those crazy teeth that are rediculous, more like ESEE's serrations. Although I usually go for the $35-$60 range, I don't mind spending more, but don't want to go more than $100 if I can help it. I know some of you will hate me for saying this, but I don't like Spydercos. I carry a SAK in the change pocket on my jeans so I don't need another one. Some of the ones I've done recently were two Kershaw JYDII's, a CS Recon-1, etc. I like a BIG folder. A 10.5" folder is just fine with me. I don't have anything that keeps me from carrying a large one such as local laws, anti-knife job, or anything like that. Ok guys. Fire away. What should I look at? Post pictures with suggestions if you don't mind.

maybe the benchmade 741 onslaught, i think it is around the 4.3 blade length and around 120 ish dollars, 154CM steel and G10 handles. fairly good deal for your money.

well if you liked spydercos, i would go with the military, got one in my pocket right no and LOVE it...but the BM 741 might be a good choice:thumbup:

Dylside, you're a knife maker. So...
Use a grinder and belt sander to grind your Izula down to fit the frame of your favorite frame lock. Drop the blade in and there you go; Izula folder

Seriously. Somebody do this. Mine didn't turn out so nice.

The problem I have with the Spydies is the same on the 741's. I just don't like the thumb holes. I can't say why, just one of those things. I don't mind studs, flippers, waves, or disc, but the hole just doesn't do it for me. Same for thumbnail notches.

I love my Izulas too much to take any chances. lol

I've been using a CRKT ripple for a bit on and off. It's a solid knife, but it's so light I think it's going to break...even though I know it most likely won't. Once I get over that and beat the snot out of it, I think I'm going to really like it. Think I got mine for about $70

Other than that, I like my benchies, a grip and a stryker. Kershaw blur's are nice and big, but that slight curve on em may turn you off. I've got a Gerber gator with a thumbstud and I love it. Don't know why they took it out of the lineup like that.

Was going to recommend the Manix 2, but you're not a fan of the hole so...

Uh, I think Benchmade came out with some new designs recently. And I'm not sure exactly when they're gonna hit but ZT has some new designs (~$100 though) and they're non-recurved and non-AO.

You can find deals on Emerson folders and they are really hard to beat for the money. Really really hard.

Get a RAT1 or a Kabar Warthog II... then get the RAT folder when it comes out. It'll still be cheaper than a 120 dollar benchmade or a spyderco military...

Maybe it is heresy...but I have been really, really impressed with my Rat-1.

ColdSteel lawman with the tri-ad lock looked cool. I read a review of it in tacical knives mag. MSRP of 114.99, so I'm thinking it could be under 100 on some websites. Looks like a pretty tough lock. If not that, then try one of those emerson hardwear knives. They are made in seki with aus8. They're under $60 usually too.

+1 on that!! I carry mine a lot....I can't believe what a solid knife it is for the $$....the Dozier Ka Bar isn't bad either but I don't like the handles.

I don't mind studs..... but the hole just doesn't do it for me.

OK....

On a less TMI note, I'm STILL carrying a RAT-1 everyday. I prefer a spyderhole but I love the "screw it" attitude I have about the RAT-1.

I cut metal, PVC, wood, I cut weeds out of the ground hundreds of times a day hitting rocks and pipes in the process, I jimmy open locks and latches, I use it to bypass the soliniod on one of my old tractors....

Just beat the tar out of it and if it breaks, it was $20, just buy another one. I started out just carrying it for work and switching over to a decent folder after but now the RAT-1 is in my pocket when I don't have a fixed blade on me.

Funny part is, the thing is holding up like a tank. By the end of the day its caked with dirt and mud and dull as can be but I scrub it with an old toothbrush while I wash my hands when I get home, hit it with a stone and it's back into my pocket.

I've had two Rat-1's... well... still do have one of them. I just want something different. I like to try new folders. Most of the folders I've picked out have been winners and any one of them would still do fine for everything I need. It's more a matter of wanting to try something new. Lately, I've been eyeing SOG's Pentagon Elite II and Spec Elite II. I might try one of those out if I can find one at the right price. I've never tried a VG-10 blade so I'd like to see how it performs. BUT, I'm still very open to suggestions.
