Almost time for a new EDC folder...

Only big folders I have is a Kershaw Boa and Emerson CQC7 (before Dick Marcinko was popular). Its a pretty decent knife. It has the spring assist opening which I like on a folder. Course I also LOVE the Benchmade Griptilians.

Heres a pic of the Boa. It has a locking liner and S30V stainless-steel tungsten DLC coated and the handle is anodized aluminum.

Also would recommend an older Benchmade/Emerson CQC7. Not so sure about the new ones from what I've read. I've got one thats about 15 years old that my brother bought for me when I was 13. Its been resharpened 100's of times and has a crapload of wear (character) but I love it.

I would go for the JYDII from kershaw, or how about a new Cold steel large voyager? they look awesome! THe Ripple is a fine knife, but doesn't have the "meat" you're looking for.

The JYDII is what I'm carrying now. Great knife. This has been my second one.

Dylside - have you tried the CS pocket bushman?
Would you like to?
If yes, PM or email me your mailing address.
use and abuse it for a while - if you like it we can talk, if you don't, just ship it back.

I have a $30 SAK One hand Trekker, and its a great blade, solid lock up. I have a couple SOGS (Flash I, II and Trident) and they are quick to open and sturdy blades. But in the end, I love my fixed blades & the Izula is small enough that I dont need to carry a better folder than a SAK.

TBH, the hardest I ever beat on a knife was a gerber (*gasp*) ez out that I carried at work in the waterpark. From non stop cutting tasks, to being used as a screwdriver, busting open doors, cutting idiots out of lifevests, etc, it never skipped a beat, all for $25. It fails this test due to the hole opening....But in the light of general beater talk...

I had one for a while. I loved it for outdoors stuff, but my folder gets most of it's use at work and for quick jobs. I carry a small SAK in my change pocket, a RP RC-3 and a folder everyday. For most of my "take my time/hard use" I use the RC-3. The folder is there to cut my food, open boxes, cut packaging open, stuff that you do quick. The pocket Bushamn, while an awesome large folder with a great solid design, just took too much effort to be a good EDC folder for me. Thank you for the offer to try one though.

The only two that I had handy to take pics of were at Buck 110 and Kershaw Blur. The 110 has a nail nick and the Blur has a recurve.....guess both are disqualified.... I would go with the Emerson CQC 7 probably....not overly expensive, very durable, hefty and definitely have the cool factor:cool:

EDIT: I love the Blur, the AO fires hard, feels substantial in the hand and you can get an S30V version for under your $100 mark. You can get one in 154CM for around $65! Not sure how much a Krein regrind would be but I have seen some done on the Blurs and they look great!

ColdSteel lawman with the tri-ad lock looked cool. I read a review of it in tacical knives mag. MSRP of 114.99, so I'm thinking it could be under 100 on some websites. Looks like a pretty tough lock. If not that, then try one of those emerson hardwear knives. They are made in seki with aus8. They're under $60 usually too.

This thing will annihilate your pockets:eek:. I had it for about a week before I traded it. It was solid as a rock but I couldn't get it out of my pocket without running the risk of a friction fire!:p

Sog spec elite or pentagon are awesome, I love that handle design. The aegis has great blade shape, if you don't mind AO.

I know you said you don't like holes but this thing is just too sweet. I can't tell you how smooth the Manix 2 is, freaking sweet.

have you tried a CRKT M-16?
it's a bit thick, but opens lightning fast & I've had no issues with the liner lock on mine.

I would parrot the Benchmade CQC-7. I have had one since 1996 and used the crap out of it. It served as edc for probably 6 years, and I used it for everything, prybar, food, slicing , dicing, etc. I still have it and will keep it until it falls apart and can't be fixed. Great knife!

I have one of these guys and I've been quite pleased with it. I think they're a little harder to find nowadays, though. Nice index-only assisted knife.
