Almost Winter Backpacking

All these threads with snow are getting tormenting. I'm on a promise but it hasn't materialized yet. Probably for the best in a way 'cos mah dog bashed himself up and could do with this week off, but if it snowed...

Good to see a home brewed silnylon tarp out and about. Although I am wondering why the two side guy lines weren't run up over a stick and then down to anchor, as that would have reduced the baggy aspect. Do you know roughly how much it cost your mate to make that one up?

Your wife and kids are out of town and you go camping with a friend who brought HER dragonfly  .

:D

Awsome stuff Brian. Glad you got out and enjoyed the weekend.

Cool camping spot. I didn't know that there were such vast tracts of undeveloped land on the lake. Lake Ontario seems to be developed for much of its coastline, at least around here. Thanks for sharing the pics.

BTW, what sleeping bag are you using? What temp is it rated for? I ask because I spent a pretty frigid night in the snow in a 20 degree bag and wonder what folks are sleeping in.

Looks nice Brian........ That shelter with the siltarp looks awesome. I like the way its set up....

I don't think you actually took that axe with you... no in use pics, that picture could have been taken in front of any tree! Just kidding man, looks like a great trip.

Now that is a good camping trip I would think. Any pics of your friend.:D

Beautiful area. You'll have to give me some advice for the west side, I don't know of much out there. I'd love to spend a couple days back there...

awesome pics brian... i like your sil-tarp shelter... it even has a little candle lantern porch light...:)

Both of these bags were Mountain Hardware. The one on the left (not mine) is a 0 degree down bag. Mine (on the right) was a 20 degree primaloft bag. I actually was too warm the first night. The second night was colder, and I was fine.

Glad to see you made the most of your free time by spending it in the outdoors. Looks like a nice camp and the pictures were great. P.S. How did the wife react upon learning of your tentmate?

Excellent pics Brian, Can you tell me more about those backpacks? I'm in the market for some for me and my boys.

If you consider those pics crappy then I ain't ever showing any of mine again !!!!!

I always enjoy your threads Brian and this was no exception buddy, it looked like another great trip !!!!!

Ps. No briangandrews bushcrafter pics ?

Inside our shelter. We were both double padding it, even though we probably didn't need to.

I usually do it the other way arround. The closed cell pad goes ON TOP of the inflatable one. The inflatable ones are way too cold for me... The air inside of them never get's warm. Doing it my way I get the insulation from the closed cell pad and the cushioning from the inflatable at the same time.
