You guys seemed all hung up on one little word from my post, so I changed it for you
I knew I was going to get dinged for no knife/axe pictures. I guess because most of it was done too close to dark.
I hear what you are saying. But both those inflatables are insulated versions. The R rating on the insulated mat is actually HIGHER than the one below it. At least mine anyway. Not sure what the R value is on the closed foam. Big Agnes rocks! They pack up so small and have a good R rating.
I was debating for quite a while on where to go. We did not want to go to the UP for such a short trip. Being that this was the end of rifle deer season, I knew most other places in the lower would be too nuts. It was a nice spot.
I have know idea about my friends pack, other than I know Osprey makes good stuff. My wife has an Osprey (just won't go during cold weather). Mine is Gregory Palisade. It is a big pack, and by most people's standards, on the heavy side. Yet, it is SUPER comfortable. I went with a larger pack because I usually take my kids, which means I haul a lot of extra stuff!
Last time I took them, I had 3 sleeping bags in my pack!
I always figured I could just compression it down when I went on my own. I love my pack, but because of the overall weight, it might not be for everyone. Just something to think about.

The inflatable ones are way too cold for me... The air inside of them never get's warm. Doing it my way I get the insulation from the closed cell pad and the cushioning from the inflatable at the same time.

Excellent pics Brian, Can you tell me more about those backpacks? I'm in the market for some for me and my boys.
