Alone Season 2

Apparently I'll be on next week. They showed exerpts of me in the teaser. All of us have our own unique skill set and strengths/weaknesses in coping with the challenge. It should be a good show and hopefully educational as well. Tonights episode was very well balanced IMO. A few of us were missing but there is alot more to come from all of us before its over. I'm really enjoying seeing what the others accomplished. Having met them all and gotten to know them, I know they are highly skilled people. There are so many things that can take you down out there and you go out knowing the show has a 90% fail rate. It's hard to watch sometimes because these are all friends of mine.

I was really impressed by the way Tracy handled the bears in that footage, and with Jose's camp projects. He and Nicole seem to have a leg up from living in similar environments and practicing primitive skills full time there.

I enjoy the liitle bits of personality that the editors have chosen to include. Larry had me chuckling again when he was cursing at the underbrush.

David/Pict, I really appreciate your willingness to share your experiences. I hope there continues to be a conversation with you throughout the season. Hopefully other cast members will find their way into that conversation as well.

Happy to find this thread after a similar thread was locked on another forum

I started a thread why the Alone thread was closed, then my thread was promptly closed

I was pretty confident Randy was going to get a coal (being an instructor at BOSS), but he has a very tough row to hoe- when the rain starts coming in days at a time, going to be tough to keep that fire going (or get another started), but kudos for giving it his best!

I do like the idea of a large, long ferro rod and then promptly snap it in half when you arrive- just in case

After seeing two unfortunate souls lose their firestarters in the first week, I'd be inclined to "suitcase" a second backup ferro, like they do in prison. LOL

Wow that was a mean cut Mary Kate gave herself. I was thinking, wow, she is not really paying attention while making the kindling... then whack. At least she admitted that she got careless. That was such a simple thing that could have been avoided. Hope her hand recovers.

Did anyone notice about 10-15 minutes in during a segment on Nicole, there was a close up of a Bald Eagle getting ready to take flight. The eagles whole upper beak was missing?

It's at 14:14 in the episode, here's a screenshot.

Most of his upper and apart of his lower beak are missing.

There are much safer ways to do what she needed to do. Thankfully I learned from near-misses when I was young. The safer techniques became ingrained through repeated use.

I do wish David could entice other participants into entering the dialogue here. Knowing they are under non-disclosure agreements, what David has been able to talk about has been interesting and informative.

I did manage to get my granddaughter to record episode three. Now if I can just figure out how to call it up and watch it!

I was hoping they were going to stitch her hand, and put her back into the game.

I was hoping they were going to stitch her hand, and put her back into the game.

Nah they had to do as they did.

A wound that large needs professional cleaning and stitches. Then a clean environment to heal so it doesn't get infected. It also wasn't just flesh that needed sewing up, her thumb was not working so in order to have a chance of regaining mobility it had to be done right. Probably some surgery involved to repair severed tendons.

If she cut her tendon surgery is in order if she hopes to use that hand again. She will have lots of rehab in her future. No way to field stitch that.

No way keep her in the game. She had a VERY comprehensive 1st aid kit with a lot of materials to deal with a major wound, she was in such shock she barely dealt with her injury just sitting for a while. Not bagging on her, she was very hurt and needed a doctor for sure. But just make sure to appreciate how fast a very capable (not 100% perfect but otherwise) person went into shock and shut her down fast. She was right to push the distress button. I hope her hand is OK with just the scar and story; "that scar? I got that on TV.."

That kind of woind could have killed many a "Mountain Man" back in the day.

I was impressed with the way Mary Kate grabbed her camera so we all could follow long in her personal nightmare. That showed grit. She even framed the shot correctly.

Videography, even without the added stress of an injury, is one area I would definitely fail.

I think she said that the tendon was cut though. That definitely needs surgery and a cast. I don't think she'd want to be out there with that, but talk about a true survival situation!

I find Nicole is interesting to watch. Sh'es super cool and confident, and she has a nice calm way about her. I hope she does well.

Impressed with the friction fire building, I thought it was a lost cause.

Great example of mindset; get knocked down, get up and try something else and don't dwell on the failure.

Perhaps it is only appearance but I don't understand why Larry is sticking to higher ground when the food is at the edge of the ocean.
Also, I think his tirades are a bad sign and a waste of energy, both physical and mental. It can easily come back and bite you when exhaustion sets in.

The female that cut her hand looked to have the best camp setup. I wish they would show more of how their camps are designed.

This goes back to my wish that they would have a post-season show giving us more details of the individuals' skills and challenges. That would be a great off-season show with ten possible episodes using the film already produced.
