Along Came a Spider .... Ed Schempp PERSIAN

Congratulations, Simona...

You made me buy a Persian... ;)

Keep doing this nice work !

I just ordered a Persian. Part of my decision was that I liked the design the first time I saw it, part was Simona's stunning photographs, and part was that Brownie speaks highly of it and EDCs it even though there are things he'd change.

Simona,

What an artist you are. I made the red background Persian picture my background at work and I spent half the day answering questions (All admired your image.) and showing them my Persian.

Please keep up the OUTSTANDING image making.

Chris

OK Simona you made me go out and buy a Persian. Now imagine, not only do I have to explain a new knife to my wife but I somehow have to explain that a beautiful woman made me buy it   :D

Keith,

I really like this knife the more I carry it. Very smooth in it's opening and lockup is solid, no blade play.

Congrats on the purchase. Spyderco did very well bringing this to market in their execution and materials used.

Brownie - do you feel that the Persian can be used as effectively as the Chinook in a defensive role, for doing back-cuts? Just judging from the pictures, the point seems to be significantly lower than that of the Chinook and not as "upswept".

I have been eying this knife for its beauty and ergonomic characteristics. It also might raise eyebrows at work in a different way than the Chinook if I need to take it out. (Instead of getting "holy sh-t - why are you carrying that?" I might get "Wow! What a beautiful knife!")

Regards,

IMO, the Persian is still a "scary" knife to non-knife people. It may be smaller than the Chinook II, and beautifully styled, but this will not be apparent to most people. They will just see the length of the blade and its exotic shape and think "scary."

I know others here have had a different opinion on this, but I have tested my Persian on two non-knife people and have had the exact same response, "It's a scary knife." This doesn't stop me from carrying it, though!

I think you need to use a Calypso Jr., a Navigator, etc. before you get into the realm of publically-accepted knives, especially in a non-rural environment. :( At work, unless you're the top dog or have no desire for advancement, I don't think it's worth displaying a larger folder if it could make waves. Outside of work, if it's legal where you live, I say carry it!

Johnny,

I agree, many have the same reaction to my producing the Persian though it is not in the public [ people I don't know ] usually. Even the people who know me and the habit I have of carrying a few knives have remarked that it "looks" like something I'd have.

I use the SAK hiker at work and around others most of the time. The Persian is reserved for potential SD situations.

Wow, those are awesome photos! Been awhile since I've been to the forums long enough to really look around. Sorry I missed so much! I think I'll try and get one of those for my mother to carry. I'm getting tired of having to go looking for where she left my Endura the last time she took it shopping with her.

Those photos look alot clearer than some of your early work, Simona. Did you get a new camera? If So what modle is it, I have to get one. The shot of the engravings on the blade look like a microscope shot! Beautiful work as always.

I think Sal should send you the enitre Spyderco collection so you can cover all the knives. And when a new model is on its way, send them to you and you do the shots that the have at the Expo tables.

4x4 foot posters would be SWEET!

I know what you mean. The guys at work were having trouble opening a box of birthday cake, and somebody asked, "Does anybody have a knife?" I mustered up the guts to pull out my Chinook II. Apparently it was more knife than my boss was expecting. ("My goodness me! And you of all people!")

That's what you get for helping your co-workers open a box of cake.

Now I carry a Victorinox Swisscard in my wallet in addition to the Chinook II.
