UPS's tracking system isn't real anyway. They have only the vaugest idea of where your package is at any time.
UPS's system was thrown together quickly in response to FedEx allowing customers direct access to the legendary FedEx tracking system. FedEx is actually a very young company. Their whole process was designed around package tracking. Computers, bar codes, etc., have been an integral part of how they do business from day one. And their website doesn't give all the details the know. If you call their 800 number, they can actually give you the GPS coordinates of your package. I've literally had them tell me, "Your package is in truck number XYZ in the 6000 block of 5th street moving southeast at 27MPH. The driver expects to deliver it to you between 10:25 and 10:35AM." Now that's tracking!
UPS added the technology of tracking to their existing system. It's an add-on. As is often true of add-ons, it's just not as good as original equipment.
The other fact is that UPS really doesn't care if you get your package or not. They've already been paid and their rules and terms and conditions are such that if one of their drivers deliberatly takes your package out back, unloads a shotgun into it, and burries what's left of it, you will not get a refund for your shipping much less any payment for contents. Oh, they claim to have insurance and they claim to have money-back guarantees, but just try to collect and you'll find out about their fine print.
They don't care if you get your package or not. They're the biggest ship in the shipping business and one or two disappointed customers here and there don't bother them.
Their employees don't care about you or your package. They don't have to. They are rude and difficult.
That's why I prefer USPS or FedEx. You can't beat FedEx for hussle and for customer service.
