277/279 vs 415

OK guys, someone has to have both of these that they can do a pic comparison with.

From the stats they look close to the same as far as physical size, with the 415 being a couple of ounces lighter, which I like, being closer to the weight of the 110.

But I wonder why the 415 only has 420 steel?? so far.....

Pardon the ignorance on the 415... I am behind the times on it...

Larry you need to look into the 419 Kalinga folder. S30V steel. Wood handles.
I would also like to see the size comparison, I love the alpha folder.

Its pretty much the same with the rubber handled models (279 & 415) = 420HC
Wood handle (277 & 419) = upgraded steel.

...I talked to a fella I ordered one from (...Larry O shhhh...) about the 419 and it seems they aren't fully out in the market yet...Looks like somewhere around the end of this month or perhaps next month sometime before we start seein' 'em in full view at the dealers...:D

Thanks for the reminder on the 419. Thats the one I would want. But is interesting in the weight difference. Not that an ounce or so would make all that much difference.

I have the 277 and 279 alphas also, and they weigh in at 8oz. The 415 supposedly weighs 6.2 and the 419 at 7.7 (wonder why?)

I love the alphas in their smoothness and easy to flick open, but am still partial to the clip blade on the 110. Thus the attraction to the 415/419 for my deer hunting.

A big however tho.... Wondering what that big curved blade would do down in the inside of a deers body cavity cleaning every thing out, versus what I am used to using the 110.

So, I guess the comparison I really am looking for would be between the 419 and a 110...

So many choices............for a feeble mind....lol :o

I guess I just gotta find me a 419 and fondel it.... Wonder if I will be able to get rubber grips. Love those on the Alphas.

Maybe from the brass and the wood on the 419??

Pack rat,
Thats why we all need to have more than one knife!
I couldnt replace my 110, with a Kalinga or a alpha folder! I need a few of each ;)
My wife and I both use folding alphas for deer hunting, she prefers the rubber also, I prefer the rosewood. I guess I am a traditionalist :D LOL When it comes to rifles shotguns and muzzleloaders... I don't have any with wood stocks...

Lol....yes...I am migrating to syn stocks and stainless whenever I can. . If you are going to have a tool you use hard, make it as maintenance free as you can.

No, a Kalinga wouldn't replace a 110, but I am always willing to try something in search of "more useable" or easier.

I did try the 277 alpha on the deer. The Rosie grips were too slick for me tho.... You may remember me talking about having trouble with that drop point on it and the S30V Vanguard and me having to hold the wrist at a different angle versus a 110, in order to keep from poking holes instead of skinning.

So,,,thats why I am kinda excited about the 419/415.

A woman with an Alpha...wow...lol...  :D Mine just hangs with her 112...so far...hehe.. and she is still partial to her little wood stock mohawk 600. :D

Whos got pics guys!!! :D :D less see,,,,so now we need side by sides of an alpha, kalinga, and a 110...lol....

...I see there's a folding Kalinga up on that auction joint...It's a 415 with the rubberish handles...I'd think that if ya typed in "Folding Kalinga" ya might get to see it...:p  ...actually seems there's 3 of 'em up for sale and a 419 with mammoth scales for around $700...  ...give or take...LMBO...

Its actually a micarta handle and its a 120. they are just brass handles to the high end kalinga.

Hang Em High...
Thanks for the great pics. Are the folding Kalinga blades thinner than the Alpha folders or is that like me with Christina Aguliera...an optical illusion?

Can you also do me a flavor between photo ops?
GET THOSE S30V FIXED KALINGAs SHIPPIN'!!!! ;)

The kalinga and the alpha have the same blade thickness (.120). Sorry about the wait on the folders they are really hot right now and they havn't shipped many of them and most of you won't see them until july.

...Great pics heng em and thanks a bunch for the info...That almost matches with what Larry O told me but he might have been a bit optimistic... ...LOL...Can't wait til he has mine in the mail headed to Florida...

I was hoping the blade on the 419 would be a tad longer. Least longer than it looks in the pic.

Thanks for the pics HengEm.

I hope we can interchange those scales!

There might eventually be a rubber grip like the 415, but just wood handles for the release of the knife so far. For the record how many of you would like the rubber handles on the brass? Or would it be nice if the S30V was on the 415?

 ...I think the versatility of being able to interchange the wood scales for the rubber scales would be a definite plus...one I'd love to see. With that in mind you wouldn't need to have the 415 bladed with S30V would ya??...
