Alpha vs Kalinga Folders

i gots half a buck worth
nothing wrong with the ClassiC 110
nothing wrong with change either
i belive what has happened is that the clasic insted of reuseing the number
and stoping the clasic that they have gone on with new mods such as the alphia and the 442 and other knives ...
most of us buck nuts seem to want some vearity in our 110 but still have a 110... what happen with the 111
not enubht sold to bring down cost ... that it is called a 111 dont fool me none !!!! i knows it is a fancy 110
same as the 560... metal framed 110 the buck lite plastic 110
so whats ifn some one at buck wants the numbers to stay odd
what was wrong wit a Ti 110
or a valum 110 rather then a 426?
and how about as D110 for the drop point folks!!!!
a 110 LL not that was not a lock back but is a most sought after 110
heck it should been a 113 maby ... would it be as desired if it was a #113?

hot darn tarnation dees is ALL folding hunters ta me !!!!
after all the #110 was a SKINER FIXED BLADE ta start witz...

so tell i gets a 2ed pot o REAL coffie going
what the heck is in a number???? its all folding hunter ta me ...
or have i lost the meaning some ware of what i wanted to say ...
do it mean sence to any but me ?
man i hate to dis early but were is that jar karen?

oh and good morning everyone!

Thats not half a bucks worth Dave!!! its a Buck fifty worth.....lol

Have Karen send me some when she finds it,,,,uh oh...can't ship explosive material...never mind...:D

None of us want the classic 110 to go away, I just want some more variety in it.

Kine of like the LL that came the other day. Now tha tis one fine opening and closing 110 with that oab in it. (is the OAB standard on it?) Is a shame there were problems with the LL.

I still want the durability of the lockback 110, and the clip blade  :D But think of how it would be to flick open with the smoothness and ease of an Alpha folder.

I did actually take a 560 hunting a couple years ago now. Blade got so loose in it before I was finished with quartering out one deer that I could hear it clicking back and forth as I made a cut.
So still need the durability of the 110 there. Maybe that 560 was a fluke.. I wouldn't try another one after that.

Actual reason I wouldn't try another one, I sent that one to Buck and their "fix" was too peen the crapola out of the blade pivot pin... I should have sent it to Joe I guess. But won't use another 560 for my deer stuff.

I did try the alpha folder. Buts weight soon beat on my carpral tunnel. And the drop point wasn't to my liking

I considered taking a bucklite last year, but after the loose 560, I didn't want to mess up a collectable minty bucklite. Not knowing if Buck could fix a loose blade on those.

yeah, its all numbers, but the number 110 has name recogonition and is and has been a quality tool. Maybe some are collectable simply because they are 110's ,,who knows.

I have even tried some of the fixed blades, and have evolved to the 121 for some of the processing.

Tried the 105, and while it has a longer blade than a 110, the handle is shorter than the 110's. That little bit made it uncomfortable to use.

So, I will keep trying some of the others simply to see how I like them, or if Buck has come up with something better than the 110 folder.

Am anxious for the 419 to get here.

I know themeds are buried here on this messy desk somewhere....digging.....and babbling incoherently....:o

lol....I get a new set of "tact" every year on Jan 1st. Back in my working days, it would last till at least Jan 10. :D :D

You DP guys......What is it going to take to convince ya....lol.... same thing it would take to convince us clip guys I guess.... :D

Nah,,,,I just think Buck is missing the boat on building a "new improved" 110 Folding Hunter and marketing it accordingly.

I love the clip point also Larry! Just some variety would be nice! Think of all the new models all of the "I only collect 110" collectors would have to buy :D
Also different handle materials, whether it be rubber alpha grips, desert ironwood etc... My main one is upgraded steel blades :D in a standard version. Oh I forgot 154CM, S30V etc would be nice in a 112 also :D

Maybe just a new kalinga folder is more likely :D LOL

Did you get in on those club drops last year? the 110 and 112? Ones with the sambar and no nail nick

419 ? did i miss something here is there a 419?
the fog is lifting from the 2ed pit of caffine juce...
and a dubble shot of expresso to wash it down with..
talk about zingg bingg !

yea i agree it is about the numbers most the time
and on that 560 humm i used one a lot to cut insulation and wood and tough plastic and no trouble..
yes i too know of the pinging on a rivit... but joe taked care of mine!
that is part of reason for no upgrades as it is very hard to get right ...
warenty most likely would be replacement soon
takes a very spechel tool to do the rivits on a 560 or buck light....

If you look at the previous page, thats exactly what i did with the 415, the blades will swap, but i don't know if that will be an option straight from the factory.

Regarding the weight, there was a major push to keep them light. The liners were skeleton-ized to achieve this. As a result, you still get the same thickness and durability without the weight.

A.G. Russell has the S30V Kalinga on sale this week.

Fixed and folder.

It should be noted that the Kalingas AG Russell had on sale were the 406 and 415 (fixed and folding with rubber grips respectively) and they are NOT made with S30V - these models are made with 420HC. The brass and rosewood Kalngas (models 408 and 419) are made with S30V blades. We are working to get that description fixed. Sorry for any confusion.

One more thing - The 420HC and S30V blades ARE interchangeable, but at the moment we're not planning on offering S30V in the rubber handled models. If you were to buy a 415 and a 419 you could swao the blades. Sometimes happiness is only a T-10 torx wrench away... Jim

Packrat, have you handled a 415 Kalinga yet? It's bigger than an Alpha, but significantly lighter.

No Sir....none seem to be available locally to fondle. Least not the places I have roamed into in the last week or so.

I have ordered a 419, but no idea when it will come. Guess I should have ordered a 415 at same time.

Was too focused on the s30v I guess. silly me.....:o

You're probably looking at sometime in July on the 419. Sorry for the inconvenience. The 415 is available already, and if I could offer my highly biased opinion, they're both worth checking out. In truth, they're actually quite different beasts - the 415 is lightweight and the sticky rubber is tackier feeling than the rubber handled Alpha. The 419 has more of an Alpha like heft, but the sintered brass handles make it feel like a marriage of an alpha and a 110. We are working hard to get these out!

Thanks Jimmer,,,,,yeah,,,I read all of that in one of your other posts. Am looking forward to both of them. May go ahead and order up the 415 if none show up locally.

Thanks!

Nice comparison shot. I didn't realize the Alpha and Kalinga are about the same size.

I was hoping it was a comeback of the 560 :(

ahh .... rummer mill has it that a bcci project knife will resemble a 560 with hole matching blade... but who knows some times rummers do or do not happen to come true...fwiw
