Alright, Beckerheads, Time to Kiss and Tell. . . . . .

Nice!! I like those lighters you can solder with 'em. LOL
Are those surfires an incandescent bulb or some kind of an LED? I love flashlights. My wife hates it when I look at 'em every time we go to the store. You never know when you might need a new one. :D

Since people are starting to get their stuff, that means I'll be getting mine soon. hahahaha

2x ENO Single Nest Hammocks, one in black/khaki, one in red/charcoal

Eager to hear how you like the singlenest. If you don't already know this, you want so sleep on the diagonal and *not* straight down the centerline. I like my doublenest.

Yeah, I smell your feet through the broadband, might have to switch to dial up until you get some Scholl's in there.:barf::D

I am trying to find a good Canadian dealer to help us out, we have some brothers in the great white north, that could use the gear pimpin'.

I'm working on it, trust me, don't know how well it will work out, though, but I'm tryin.

I stink, therefore I am. ;) Many around here are into a west coast retailer, that is currently undergoing a name change. It would be wonderful if deals came down with them. And I thank you for your behind the scenes efforts. That is quite impressive !

Did not know that. Thanks!

i noticed a couple of you bought the 1/2" diameter firesteels. since i used the shell casings from a .308 and a 45-70 govt. as handles before...

...that got me thinking. the shell for .50 cal would be a perfect fit! the bullet diameter is .510 so the shell's neck has just enough space for the epoxy. i don't want to drive 75 mi away to cabelas to pick up some. anyone want to send me a spent shell or two? :D

Ok here is a pic of the stuff that I got. I'm not too happy with the fire steels. I know they are small but I was expecting a little more spark than what they give off. Other than that I'm pretty happy with what I got. I can't wait to try out that permanent match :D

What are you using for a scraper if you don't mind my asking?

The sharp edge of my bk 13. Do you have any particular scraper in mind that would work best?

I have a couple of things. One is the mini widgy prybar from County Comm, I took it and squared the edge on one side, it works really well and is a great size. Not sure what kind of steel they use, but it works.

Second is the awl on my Gerber Diesel. It worked scary good.

Here in the last few weeks I got to thinking how good a dedicated awl might be for various things, and I think I might try to make one out of an old triangle file. Not sure how it would work, but it should be pretty decent I would think.

The problem with the smaller steels is there is less surface area to provide a spark off the material you remove. Maybe try something with a small curve in it that matches the firesteels? Best of luck, hope you get something figured out.

Would it matter the type of steel used for striking? I also squared off the spine of the 13 and tried that with about the same results.

I think it does. Not 100% sure, but I think it affects it. Seems like I read that somewhere. Could be wrong though. We should do some science.

I'll try it with my bk14 tomorrow. I have to put an edge on the spine first though.

I just received my 1/2" x 4" firesteel yesterday. This is my first misch metal firestarter and I have to say... I love the spark this puts out. I really cannot wait to see it after it's been broken in. :)

In anticipation, I had shaped a piece of scrap of commercial grade micarta into a handle and added a little wood stain to darken it up. This is the finished product, with about 11" of bright pink paracord connecting the striker:D:

The usable portion is now about 3-1/2", with the overall length being just under 6-1/2"

The little carabiner is a bonus gift from the shop. Thank you Casey! :)

Damn, Canada is like a whole other country. Those things took forever. I hope the BK6 gets there ok, it will be leaving Friday, hopefully.
