Alright people I joined to ask this question, Help a girl out

...my point being: would, say, a MALE college student asking for advice on which folding knife to buy on a budget generate 153 replies in 2 days? C'mon.....;) ;) ;)

No, but it would still get a lot of replies because all of us are anxious about knives, and if we can't afford to buy them ourselves, we're always glad to help spend someone else's money on them. :D

It's weird I was wondering about the response myself. If I was flirting or handing out pictures it'd be one thing but since I'm not like that...is this a novelty thing? I know you have some women who are collectors like the poster I quoted, but most of the time I've searched for a few post on knife recs for girls it was their boyfriends or husbands who posted.

TheKnifeCollector- Agree with you totally on grown women being called girls. It's strange though sometimes I still don't feel like i'm adult enough yet for that lable. It's funny even when referring to my guy friends in their 20's I still don't call them men. i wonder when thats gonna change

Oh and I'm gonna go shopping today hopefully by tonight i'll have an order out for a knife and some mace. Please people do not push the custom knives I saw a few that looked like works of art. The my wallet started to scream

I believe it is largely a novelty thing. I personally do refer to any respectable woman over the age of 18 as a woman. Unless they act like a girl, in which case that's what they get called. Same thing with boys/men. I hear you on not feeling like an adult though- that's what they call me and I'm not sure I believe them.

You are also most definitely on the wrong forum- I used to be comfortable spending $20 on a knife and using it for three years. Then I found bladeforums. I now carry high-end Kershaws as a matter of course and have $1600 invested in knives, easily. It's a sick addiction. But oh so much fun.

If the WH makes you drool don't bother looking at the custom stuff :D

Pretty much yeah, that.

yes william henrys are very nice. re: mace, i would reccomend a 10-15% oleoresin capsicum (oc) content. get the stream instead of spray, simply more accurate and greater range. the stuff i carry is orange and marks the target, kinda cool also. no mistaking who the attacker is later when he has orange dye all over him

That's a good idea, the dye marker. Definitely distinctive. Stream OC is definitely a good choice, too. Fox Labs makes some good stuff.

DEFINITELY illegal for a civilian to have an asp in california.

Which is really too bad, because until 308 days, one hour, and 41 minutes from now, when I can carry concealed, nothing's quite as reassuring as the feel of 26" of ASP in your pocket.

Is it strange that I don't particularly care that I can buy alcohol, but am very interested in the fact that I'll be able to purchase handguns and handgun caliber ammunition?

ca laws seem to be getting more restrictive at an ever quickening pace. keep in mind many laws seem to be aimed at our rather large gangster population. the irony of course being no gangster considers whether an act will be illegal before committing it.

"When they outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns."

Or knives in this case..

unfortunately ca law makers have yet to acknowledge this fact.

spent some time in utah recently, great state btw, and i was astonished at the amount, variety, ease of purchasing guns. amazed mainly because in ca we have the 10 day wait and cant get alot of stuff readily, ie hi cap mags, 'assault' weapons, etc.
and in talking to officers there, it is clear their crime rate, particularly crimes against persons, is waaaaay below ours.
clearly criminals are less apt to attack a victim if the victim is likely armed.

The Hideaway knife fit's what you need as far as I can tell. All it is is a household razorblade design with a way to hold it firmly during an attack...it looks the smallest and easiest to conceal, and it's legal in your state

I suggested the HAK as well, due to the quick deployment, ease of use and weapon retention aspects, not because it is legal, which I belive,it is not, to the best of my knowledge. The reason being that the knuckles are covered which puts it into the "knucle duster/brass knuckles" catagory, a big felony no-no in this state. Not that I care: if ajri feels her life is worth it, who are we to judge? During the L.A. Riots, I left the house armed with a hell of a lot more than just a knife for three days straight, because I felt that the situation dictated that I due so. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Hi,
I didn’t read this whole thread so forgive me if somebody already said this. I to go to school in northern California and carry a knife with me at all times. Something you may want to look into is what you campus allows. I contacted my university PD and they were able to tell me what I was legally allowed to carry on campus. From what I have heard if you break this rules you can get into a pretty good amount of trouble. So when you get a chance email your Universities Police Department and see what you’re allowed to carry. They probably have some pretty reasonable rules. We can have any folding knife, and any fixed blade under 3inches I believe. If the knife is a locking knife though it is considered a fixed blade when it’s open.

eh, I am not counting gift knives I have handled and played with: delica 3, g10 cara, Merlin (wish I held onto that one...)

line removed:

I know you weren't trying to be creepy and it is ridiculously easy to track people down. My profile is totally private so the only thing you can see is a tiny pic, but thanks anyways for being protective.

whatever else, most here do a good job looking out for each other. amazing how a bond can be formed in such a simple way. with only one exception i have never even spoken directly to anyone here, yet feel i have made a bunch of friends.

pretty cool.
