Alternative to Benchmade?

Just do yourself a favor...spring for a CRK large Sebenza. You wont look back. There are always CRKs to buy previously owned on the Exchange.
Happy Hunting!

For many people Spydercos are unlovable until they get one in hand.
You nailed it on that statement Lapedog ^. I for one H8ted the overall look of the knives until curiosity got to me and I picked up a Delica with a wharncliffe blade and took it to work and now it's my favorite work blade. That said I love my Kershaw's for their price and durability and my ZT's for their looks, Steels, and Fidget factor

I too avoided Spyderco initially due to their odd look. Eventually I gave in and absolutely love them now. The hole and ramp are something I admire now. However, they have many models in their lineup that don’t have the typical Spyderco aesthetics. A few don’t even employ a functional hole. If you like the 940, look at the newly released Smock for somewhat similar profile open and closed.
Other than Spyderco there are too many brands and knives to list without a more detailed description of what your after, if you have specific requirements that is.
ZT makes good stuff, I’ve got a couple but they’re too tactical/murdery looking for my tastes for the most part.

I recently picked up an all-Ti, M390 Real Steel Megalodon. If you’re OK with a large flipper that won’t break the bank, this one is really hard to not fall in love with.

Just a few options...

I'll second the Bailey option. They're customs, but can usually be had in the OPs price range, if not a small tick over, and are really well made.

For what it's worth, not everyone loves the ergonomics of Spyderco knives. They're generally okay, but the handles of the PM2 and Manix 2 aren't super comfortable if I'm actually gripping those knives with any force. In fact I wouldn't even put the ergos of those knives above that of most of their american competitors' classic designs.

^This guy’s got a sweet collection. All great solid knives.

That's the first time I have seen knives displayed on the clipside only and I love it. The non show side always gets neglected but IMO it's half of the knife and a well designed and placement can be deal maker for me.:thumbsup:

I always display lockside, how else will people know I sprung for the framelocks?

Check out Three Rivers Manufacturing. Their quality is very, very high and they're a small American manufacturer, which can be a big bonus to some.

If you want fixed blades, White River Knives is another that fits that same profile. Small, high quality and U.S. manufactured. ETA: If you go this way, do yourself a favor and get a Sendero Classic. Jerry Fisk is a genius and it's an amazing knife.

If you're down with something north of the border, North Arm knives has a few very nice models that are quite affordable.

Another company to consider would be Freeman Outdoor Gear. They're within your price range and they straddle the line between production and midtech. The Freeman 451 BLF is an amazing folder on every level, I can't recommend it enough if you like, tough, heavy duty knives.
Looked around a little and couldn't get that 451 Flipper out of my mind, so I bought one :D

If I get a chance to handle a Spyderco I'll take it, who knows what my impulsive nature will lead to next.

Southern Grind is in your price range. I think the Spider Monkey is a phenomenal EDC piece.

I hear you on the Spyderco thing. I'm no fan myself. They're great knives, and I've owned many, just not for me.

I like ProTech stuff as well, and I look at A.G. Russell for a big batch of variety.

I had strong Spyderco episode, I sold almost all of them because their customer service, I will stick with Benchmade. There is no alternative for axis lock, maybe if you don't have problem with that buy Ganzo knives.

Don't support ganzo. Worst brand in existence.

And I'm not a fan of axis locks or compression locks.

I suspect you'll enjoy it, it's a fantastic knife. My one warning is to watch your fingers when you close it. It's practically frictionless once the lock is released, so the blade will drop like a guillotine. Lots of fun, but it can definitely catch you by surprise.
