Alternative to CRK. What other folder's compare in quality and price point?

Benchmade 790 Subrosa,

Pretty much the Sebenza cloned by Benchmade, Subrosa also sound accidentally similar to Sebenza IMO.

Wow, didn't realize how close of a clone. You are correct!

Now thats funny...

If any of us could procure one for that price point....My whole point is what is out there I guess. Even from $300-$500 that is satisfying. Sure there are amazing blades from all price points $50 and up. So many great production blades even. But when you get something that gets up there in cost you really do notice the amazing tolerances! Nothing compares. I love my Sage 1, I do. Main EDC. Compared to my CRK, it's...you know. Obviously Sal has said that if they followed the tolerances that closely, the cost would be the same. The Sage 2 is a great segway into a CRK. IMO Wasn't as impressed by the Bradley Alias II

XM Folder Retail Prices
XM-18 3" Production Model $385.00
XM-18 3.5" Production Model $385.00
XM-24 Production $550.00

Where do you buy them for those prices?
If you look on the Exchange in this forum, the last five Hinderers offered for sale were as follows:
Three separate XM-18's for $675, $775, and $800 in the last three days of ads.
Two new XM-24's (May 18) offered for $850 EACH.
...and you were saying, sir?
Sonny

Im gonna side with Marthinus,

Gareth bull has very competitive prices and his knives are amazing. similar to a sebenza but IMO better because its a custom made to your specifications for about the same price or less. IIR rwl-34 is better than s30v too. Either way Bull's knives are very close to the sebenza.

^ Not everyone is a fireman, ems, leo etc. I would also suggest a les george vecp if you can find one at a good price.

I recently acquired a good example of the BM LFTi (760) and it is a very smooth, high quality knife with high end steel. I have handled CRK knives and they sure are nice but I am perfectly happy with the BM. oops, just saw your 3.5" limit, sorry!

Actually, xm18s DO cost $385, you just have to be an emt/firefighter/military/police in order to buy one from him at the list price. They go for much higher than that on the exchange because people who cannot buy them at list price also want them and are apparently willing to pay exorbitant prices.

Five syllables . Currently catching my eye are. Ray Laconico! Amazing stuff. Slim or bolstered liner-lock?

Calavera Cutlery makes an all Ti frame lock (El Patron), D2 steel. Looks like a very nice alternative to the Sebenza, they offer it in two different sizes as well.

I can confirm that Ray Laconico folders are pretty awesome too.

I know it's been established that they are above your price point but the only knife to really "WOW" me in a long time has been my XM-18. For me, I just like everything about it. The ergos, materials, smoothness, fit and finish, and the customizing combinations are endless. However, they are out of your price range so within the $400-$500 mark, I'd say either get a custom or try out a Strider (please don't start an argument about them). From my experience with my SnG, I've been very pleased. Fit and finish fine, lockup is solid and the blade sits dead center- no issues at all.

Are you being serious? Other than both of them being Ti knives, they are almost literally completely different.

Have to agree. If we were going to nitpick we can argue almost every knife is a rip off from Bob Loveless or other great makers that have passed. Take a good design, have the maker put his personal flair to it and see what comes out. There will always be some familiarities but it is how a maker expresses himself in the small details that make it different.

I'm not seeing any similarities aside from the handle materials and maybe the approximate size. The ergonomics, blade grind, handle shape, lock geometry, clip style, handle finish, and opening mechanism are ust the start of the differences. Not all Ti framelocks are clones of a Sebenza, especially when they look nothing like it.

He seems to have something going on there. I like the small version. Would love to see a review.

*Hey CrimsonTS, I do agree with the Benchmade, it is a completely different everything. Looks close from afar on the outside. Everything else is different all together. Ergos, F&F, tolerances I assure. I would never want an assisted opener in a Ti. But I think you should get one of these El Patron's from Calvary Cutlery. Or the small version. Wow...or is it just me??

i received my first spyderco today...chaparral...let me start by saying i have never been a fan of spyderco looking blades and have been really happy with my crk small carbon fiber sebenza.
after getting this spyderco....i can say it is awesome.
it definitely will get pocket time.
i wonder if i wouldve even bought the sebenza if this knife was purchased first.

the spyderco is sharper out of the box but i think thats because the blade/edge is thinner than the sebenza.

i do like sharp blades and carbon fiber :D
