Aluminum handles/scales/frame issue

Beautiful knife! Love the design but it is a big liner lock knife that looks like it should be for heavy use. He did abuse it but Im guessing the rotoblock was easily damaged regardless due to the material used. Im sure Ti would be some tougher but not sure it would be undamaged in the way the aluminum was. Sad

Just don't use it for this!

I don't know, what I took away from this over the top abuse is; the blade never snapped and the knife would still function as a knife despite the damage it absorbed. I'd love to see him test the ti version like this. I bet the results would be similar.

I'll say that Aluminum isn't my favorite material for a handle, but I don't mind it in certain situations. In very light knife not designed to used for bushcraft batonning, I like it. The Kershaw Launch series is a very sleek and lightweight cutter. A little pocket-scarring on the frame is a good look for it. Reminds me of used and carried ARs and M9s.

But the Launch is around 100 bucks. If I'm buying something like a ZT, I would expect Ti.

The only aluminum handled knives I have are Pro-Tech's, and the feel great in the hand. They have incredible fit & finish!!

I guess Im a hypocrite since I own a Microtech DOC and I love it! I also have several Protechs for that matter

My Benchmade Stryker (button locki) has an aluminum handle and it takes abuse for about the last 15+ years. It has a few minor dents on the edges from dropping, but other than that it's in good mechanical shape. I have a few other Benchmade Park Avenue (liner lock) and a Spydreco Mouse (lockback) and Lum (liner lock), both are about 10-15 years old and have held up great as well. The anodized surface on the Park Avenue, Mouse and Lum seems to be more impervious to scratches than my older Stryker. Aluminum is fine with me.
