So, I feel like I may finally be one knife away from being content. Is this possible? I honestly feel like once I aquire a small Micarta Sebenza, that I may be done looking for my "next" knife. Anyone else feel that they've reached the finish line? Just wondering.

I reached the finish line in '98 with a benchmade mini afck 812hs. Fast forward ~15 years and I decide to get another because this one is developing a tiny bit of blade play after being beat on most every day for all those years. To my horror, they haven't been made since '05? - and to this day, haven't seen one come up for sale.

So, I'm starting all over again.

Each purchase I make I swear will complete my knife needs but only until the next knife that comes out and I just have to have it!

So this guy on BFC said...hehehehe...he said, "I think I'm one knife away from being content!" BWAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

No, it is not possible. :( I always think the knife that's currently in the mail to me is going to be the "one." It IS the one, all right, sometimes for as long as a day or two, but then I'm on the hunt again. :D

I thought the same exact thing. I always said, "Once I finally buy a sebenza I'm done. There's no reason to get any other knife". When I finally did achieve that goal, I was ecstatic! "I finally own a sebenza!" The addiction never subsides though. I was on the web within the hour looking for my next "last" knife.

Anyway...

Nope. I'll always be looking for a few perfect knives. And if I ever find them, well, my cutting needs are based on what's going on in my life, so when that changes I'll need a whole different set of perfect knives.

There's a finish line??

The Fort, nope. You are not done. You will think you are for a period of time (how long that will be can vary) but you'll be drawn back...

...we all are! ;)

Enjoy!

I was in the same spot you are- there was one more knife I wanted and I would be finished with my knife acquiring, and would just enjoy the ones I had. I got that one and was satisfied. Then I came across a great deal I couldn't pass up and bought four new ones the following week.

So sure, you'll get to the finish line. Many. many times.

I really want a Large Sebenza 21. I curse these damn medical bills that plague me and will continue to for quite a while. When I first broke my back I stayed positive and still try to, but some days are harder than others. Like having to sell my dirt bike because I'm now physically unable to ride for a good year or two and could use the money for bills. That was tough and kind of heart breaking. I don't think I'll be "done" collecting after I get one; however, I know I'll have the knife I'll edc for countless years to come finally. As I said a while back in another thread, I just need to stay positive and go one day at a time and hope that I can score a couple extra graphic design jobs that will allow me to finally fulfill that goal in my life.

Only way to end the hobby is to get rid of all knives except one folder and one fixed blade and call it at that.. until you start to wonder "hmm, damn, what is some poo goes to the fan and I need big fixed blade too.. and a hatchet.. and a backup"..

well, i've definitely slowed down. i've really dialed in on what i need and want a knife to do for me and that can eliminate a lot of them right off the bat. i've also accepted that i'm a collector and i'm going to always be drawn to limited editions. i'm looking at some boker knives now because, well, i don't have a boker yet. i know i want a rockstead at some point soon. i do have a few that i've distilled out of my collection that i could carry exclusively for the foreseeable future and never feel under-knifed but there's not as much fun in that

Only reason to ever say "last knife" is because of ones significant other. They tend to be more lenient for the last knife. I have played that one too many times, though. I think I have 14 "Last knives". I will be buying my last one in a short while though, I swear :D

No, there is no end. You might not NEED another knife, but you will always be buying.

I felt that way when I got my Large Sebenza 21 w/ Micarta but now I'm looking into Rockstead then maybe that'll be my last knife, haha maybe.

One day you will sell all of your knives, keeping only one Mora and one Opinel. And then you will have achieved enlightenment.

To date, I have yet to encounter such a knife Buddha.

Other than kitchen knives, I have not bought a knife in about two years. Honestly, I look at stuff and I have something similar already. I was quite a steel whore for a few years but now find myself grabbing a zdp 189 or an elmax folder for the day. I have two custom elmax folders by Alan Davis and the performance of his HT is all I need.
. I will put a new Gayle Bradley folder on my Christmas list but if I don't get it I will live.
Not sure if I am done buying knives but I sure don't feel that tug anymore. Don't get me started on sharpening supplies though...........
