Am I becoming a bit weird about knives ?

This is probably not the best place to ask that sort of question LOL;) but it is the first step in admitting you have a problem. That being said... Welcome to the madness Parky

-Wow, that would be Torture...
How would you be able to fiddle and fidget your knife in that contraption !
...(Hopefully you've got a blade on you so you could slice your way out)
B.T.B.

The best advice I can give you :D.

Do not to seek help for your illness with other people that have more advanced ailment than you ;).

That said You have some time on your hand and this is a great hobby, I don't see anything wrong with that :).

As long as you don't start sharpening already "Sharp" knives .

I've always loved tools, of all sorts. Power tools, hand tools, vintage tools. A knife just happens to be the coolest of them all. It doesn't matter if it's a cheap old tackle box fillet knife or a custom titanium flipper. A knife, at its heart, is a simple tool with a pure function. How can that NOT be fascinating?

I've always been interested in knives since I was old enough to hold and use one. My interest, however, waxes and wanes. I'll sometimes go years (yes, YEARS) without buying a single knife, but sometimes I'll buy 5 a month.

Meh, nothing wrong with it at all as long as you can afford it, and you enjoy it.

For many years I had one pocket knife, an SAK Spartan. I always carried it and it did everything I wanted it to despite it never being very sharp. It was my most useful tool because it was always there.
After recently becoming more interested in knives and acquiring a dozen or so more I find I spend more time worrying if they are sharp enough , testing their sharpness, fiddling and fidgeting with them, rather than actually using them for any practical reason . Since I retired I don't even need to use a knife very often.
I think I am becoming a little obsessed ! Will have to stop watching so many knife videos on Youtube.

Well, you're here...

... so I guess the answer to your question is yes.

On the plus side this hobby can be as cheap or as expensive as you want to be and if you stick to pocket knives you can probably keep your entire collection in a shoe box. Makes it a lot easier than cars as your significant other can't really tell you to get rid of them your running out of room. So congrats on choosing a good hobby, everyone has them but we get to have a lot of sharp pointy objects to play with in ours.

Just don't let people know your good at sharpening knives they will than expect it and wonder why it takes so long to sharpen a beat up kitchen knife they hand you. The concept of reprofiling the blade because there is no bevel, chips, rolls, broken tip, etc will most likely be beyond their understanding and will wonder why it doesn't cut arm hair like they do on YouTube in a minute.

You know you have a problem when you start inventing and looking for reasons to take your blade of the day out and use it for what it was meant for. My furniture and clothes have absolutely no hanging thread or strings! LOL

^^ This, basically. :p

When I'm poking around one of the dozen knife retailers on the Internet, I can always find a knife that I need. I can envision a need that is unfilled or would be made better with that new knife.

Maybe it's the design. I need it. It could be the steel! I don't have it, cripes! What am I going to do? I have to buy it.

Then I come on Bladeforums. I want to mention this purchase to someone, after all, all they have is Z-Hunters and I need to convince them to buy the same knife.

I've got more than 80 knives but just two hands, but that's not a problem. The problem is, I need more hobbies that use knives.

You’re fine. Be glad it’s not guns, or worse, motorcycles - ask how I know!

Oh man, I've been thru both of those...eight bikes (primarily off-road enduro machines)... and many guns (in the past). Sure was fun, though.
