Am I being too picky?

This is an interesting discussion for me...
this is perhaps a great opportunity to get some input from some folks.

about 2 months back, i picked up a case mini-trapper and i absolutely fell in love with the pattern
however, my OCD keeps pointing out to me that there is a gap in the liners that i can see light through and the spey blade has some blade play...
now do i feel that this will effect usage? no not really. Or if i am honest, maybe, see I imagine that blade play will get worse with use, over time
if it already has these issues while essentially new, how bad will it get in a year or 3?

I dont know if I am just being unnecessarily picky, or if this is a valid concern
I know I certainly havent used it all that hard up this point and certainly nothing i would consider abuse.

I have considered sending it back, but i've had it about 2 months now and I am not certain they would take it back at this point (Warranty i mean) or if its worth it even if they did

so, any thoughts?

I'd send it back. Time isn't an issue if you haven't abused it. I have OCD too, though. :)

When I was a kid, everyman, no matter if a city dweller or country boy farmhand, had a pocketknife on him. It may have varied a little from a bigger one for the farmhand to a little pen knife for the city office worker, but it was there. Men also wore a watch.

Look around today on any high school or college campus and see how many young kids even bother to wear a watch anymore. No need as their cell phone is always there.
I agree with you on the knife front but when you carry a cell phone a watch just becomes jewelry. In fact our world is full of clocks so even if you DON'T carry a phone I see little to no reason to have a watch. I have 4 clocks within arms reach of me as I type this. Of course there are exceptions. For instance I have a watch strapped to my daypack for when I'm in the woods but for day to day life it's just hunk of steel on your arm. YMMV.

That would bug me!

On a side note, anyone have any tips for filling small gaps in the scales? Epoxy? Is that a Slipjoint gaff?

Sure, epoxy or a drop of CA.Epoxy you could even color it to match. If a factory made slippie functions well and looks reasonably good,i have no problem with these tiny cosmetics being discussed. If i bought it as a shelf resting collectable with a largish cost and potential value, thats different.

I'm with you. I bought a medium stockman a while back that has wood scales. They just a tiny bit loose on one end of one side. I didn't send it back. After a couple of months of light duty, it was loose about halfway down the scale. I really like the fit and finish of the knife and didn't want to take a chance on losing it. So I pried it up and put a couple of drops of epoxy between the scale and the liner and clamped overnight. Done.

Then the other scale side did the same thing. This time it was a 15 minute + overnight fix. No problems since then.
