Am I being unreasonable?

The customer does not know they will not get their knife before the dealers. They think they will have some priority, and most often they do not. It's just a selling tactic for the maker, to sell his/her knives before they are produced. This guarantees that he/she will sell every knife made in that run, and have all the funds in advance.

Regardless of any sort of list why wouldn't the buyer who paid in advance simply get their knife or whatever product based on when they ordered it? In this case it appears that an individual ordered a single knife prior to the dealer yet the dealer received their order first. That's unreasonable. If I wait in line for a sandwich, order and pay for it and someone behind orders a dozen would it be reasonable to serve them first simply because they ordered more ? I don't think so. It's not worth making a huge deal out of it but I would certainly keep it in mind before I ordered from that dealer again. In addition to the above, this wasn't some exotic custom knife, it was described as a mid-tech or what I call a production knife. What's so hard about simply taking one out of inventory or grind an extra one and mail it to the guy who sent his money in first, it's not rocket surgery.
