Am I crazy for not liking the Paramilitary 2??

people are crazy for the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 - they don't even last an hour in stock or on the Exchange.

I've owned two. And sold both. I really don't get why everyone is so obsessed with them, am I the only one?

This is by no means a knock against the knife - They're good quality and mine both came sharp, solid, centered, smooth, etc - all were fine, nice knives. But I just didn't care for either. Neither seemed all that special and I preferred almost all my other knives over them so they got sold.

Does anyone else feel the same or am I the only one?

Yeah, I feel the same exact way.

No you're not the only one. I had one and it just wasn't my cup of tea. I'll stick with the Military.

Mine went to a good cause, I gifted it to my nephew who was just earned his Eagle Scout status.

I haven't owned one yet, i've handled em at the local gun shows but that's it. Just kinda played with it a bit, felt like a good quality blade, but my Millie feels better. Love the Military. can't say I ever really think of the PM2.

I think part of it is the locking mechanism. Just feels completely backwards and unnatural on the spine of the handle...

As you have already seen, you are not alone.
That goes for me too, I can safely say that one of those will never enter my crew of knives

I'm not a fan either.....doesn't mean it isn't a great knife. It's awesome we have so many choices.

I wasn't crazy about mine when I first got it. The pivot was slow and the lock was hard to operate compared to my Benchmades. After taking it apart and removing a manufacturer defect inside the pivot (then adjusting the overly complex pivot tension), it began smoothing out. The blade now swings as free as a pendulum and lockup is solid. I also got used to the lock operation, and appreciate how strong the design is. Mostly though, the aesthetics have grown on me A LOT, and I find it to be one of my most visually attractive knives.

My feelings on the PM2 are this: It's an amazing knife for people on a budget (not always the case though), or people whom haven't owned and handled and Axis Lock yet.

I've owned three and sold them all....not a fan. Also agree that it isn't a knock on the quality of the knife....it is actually very nice in that respect, but just not my cup of tea. Finally, it is wonderful to have so many choices in knives and the ability to try them out and then move them on to people who do like a particular style.

I like mine, but I'm certainly not crazy about it like some others are. I got mine years ago before ALL the hype came into play, and its been a user ever since. It's certainly not the "Best EDC EVER!" as so many people claim, but it does perform well.

The main thing I would change about it...Shorten the handle, or make the blade longer. The handle is WAY too big for the blade and makes for a larger profile in the pocket. Other than that, it's a well made work knife, but perfect it is not.

The PM2 is a well made knife, but it is no better than any other knife of quality and I certainly don't think they are worth the insane prices they have commanded on the secondary market. All comes down to what you like. I'm not sure where the fanaticism about it comes from but I bet there are people who think I'm wierd for liking my Southern Grinds, Protech or Bokers so much. To each his own, but no, you aren't alone.

I do not enjoy vanilla but I have never thought to ask if my preference is crazy.
So, since you ask; yes, you are crazy. ;)

I'm generally attracted to a knife first of all because of its blade shape, and secondly maybe the handle and scales. The PM2's beauty is its efficiency and function, aesthetically it doesn't grab you. They are relatively light which might make some people think they are not a substantial knife. Also the liners are hidden inside the scales so the knife looks like a blade and 2 pieces of G10. When I first held one I was most impressed by the smoothness of the blade and the lock. With a Spyderco, it's "beauty is as beauty does".

Same here, Sal makes some great knives, the PM2 is just not one of my favorites.

The beauty of being a knifenut in this day and age is that there are so many great knives to choose from.

I was in no rush to get one, but then I finally found a pair (1 black blade 1 satin) and the satin knife hasn't left my pocket since.

It's a bit smaller than the military, but has a better lock (stronger but just as simple), a better pivot bushing system, and no stupid aluminum backspacer to strip out.

I wouldn't pay inflated secondhand prices for one, but at under $110 shipped it's the highest quality knife, that I can think of, for the money.

My only problem with the para military, is that it pinches my index finger when I thumb out the blade. Doing the thumb flick, and middle finger flick it's cool and no problems. Spyderco has so many excellent knives to choose from, it will make your head spin.

I'd like a military, but the blade is too long to legally carry where I am.

I could get away with it in certain situations, such as camping or hiking.......but I look at folders as more EDC tools and fixed blades as woods tools.

That being said, I am very happy with my PM2. It's one of my favorites. The one thing I like best about it is that it carries like a dream and doesn't take up a lot of pocket......yet it still has a nice big grip (big hands).

It's the last knife I'd sell. I like it better than my Manix2's of various flavors. I'll be buying more the next spyderco factory sale. I'm also on the hunt for a pikal, and a military.

For me the best part of the PM2 is the compression lock. I was a bit dubious at first, but after using it for a good while I appreciate it more than I thought I would.
