Am I crazy for not liking the Paramilitary 2??

The PM2 is in my top three folders.
It's light, narrow, easy to carry, comes in a ton of different bladesteels.
And the nicest part of this folder is the compression lock. I love it.

I bought a Para in cpm d2 when Spyderco was selling them on their site for $100. I knew before I bought it that the handle was too short for my hand.

Ten minutes after I got it I ground the back hump on the handle so I had enough room for my hand. I have a PM 2 in m390 that I got in a trade....I hardly

ever use it bc I can't stand the blade to handle ratio. The handle was enough room for a blade about .25 longer. I like big folders....the PM just isn't big

enough for me. I should sell or trade my m390 for something with a longer blade.

I am just not a fan of Spyderco's in general, and it is purely for aesthetic reasons. I know they are great knives, but they just don't get a rise out of me like Benchmade, Beckers, or ZT's do.

I'm the same way actually but with Emersons mostly.

Its funny, because I actually got caught up in all the hype about the PM2 and was actively searching for one until I realized that I don't really like it! Just proof of how influential Bladeforums can be I guess, lol. As others have mentioned, the blade to handle ratio is kind of a turn-off.

Now, let me ask: Am I crazy for not liking the Benchmade Griptilian either? Cuz I really don't.

I've never owned one but handled one at a local knife shop. They only got two in and they were sold by the end of the day. I played with one and loved the locking mechanism but I just wasn't into the knife. I'll probably never own one.

Yes you are crazy. Both the PM2 and the Griptillian are great knives. Really, you should seek professional help. :p

Previous mistakes and threads like these are the reason I haven't picked up a PM2.... Won't buy until I can have it in hand!

I bought one last year for $109.00 and after a four month back order wait, I eventually received it Jan. 2013.
While it opened smoothly and is nice ergonomically, I noticed that the height of bevels were obviously different from each other.
1mm vs 2mm.
Some here on the forum suggested I re-profile it myself, but I had no desire to do that and don't feel as others have mentioned: "you should expect to re-profile a new knife".

I sent it back to Spyderco two weeks ago and should receive something back in two weeks.
Whether they re-profile it or send a new one I'll probably wind up selling it as I'm not crazy about it either.

A knife I can truly say is flawless for me and is the most comfortable knife I own is my 'Doug Ritter' Mini Griptilian, I recently (with a 4th of July discount) purchased the full sized Ritter Griptilian, both have blade shapes that to me are much preferable to the standard BM Griptilian's blade shape.

let me start this out by saying the spyderco military is my favorite edc of all time, i have carried one for several years now.

the paramilitary 2 is just not for me. i have handled about 5 examples of paras in various flavors and i never fell in love. to me the military is just better in every way. i dont like the handle on the paramilitary. it just not comfortable, end of story. the lock is strong but is just not a favorite of mine. and most of all. i cant stand the proportions of that dang knife. that is a lare annoyance when i have a big handle and a small blade.

what i tell people is anything a paramilitary 2 can do a military can do better. it is easier to use with gloves, it is a better shear force cutter because of the large handle. it has a bigger blade which i perfer, it has a better pocket clip in my opinion. it has a liner lock which i prefer. just everything about the military i prefer more.

yeah. what he said!

I've had two Para 2's and have sold them both. I really wanted to like the knife but it just didn't fit in with my EDC needs. I found the knife too large and bulky in the pocket and a bit overkill for the tasks I needed out of my folders. I found the overall quality to be outstanding, however, and would have likely enjoyed the knife otherwise.

Different strokes is all.

I don't get it either. I don't even get why other people get it. But I do get that people get it for reasons I don't get, so usually I sit this one out. But hey, I might as well say something about it at least once.

I would like the Para2 more if it came in a liner lock form like its bigger brother.

But, its never been a favorite for a few reasons like the lock, the blade to handle ratio, and the edge could be ground just a bit thinner. It is a handsome knife, though.

Honestly have to say, I loved this thing the minute I got it. (and it was a lightly used one too, lol)

I'm sure we all have different tastes though, I hated the Benchmade 940 the minute I got it, and that's one that receives lots of praise.

I don't get the hype either, seems like a quality knife but I can't see what about causes so much mass hysteria... To me there are plenty of comparable knives out there with the same blade steels, same handle material, similar ergonomics, and (arguably) better locking mechs that don't have nearly the same following of the PM2. Not a knock to PM2 owners in any way, because as I said it's definitely a quality knife, but it just doesn't do it for me like it does for others.

Just bought my first and had it sent straight to bowerbladeworks for od green micarta scales, acid stonewashed blade and pocket clip, and heat bronzed hardware... can't wait for Kevin to get done with it...

I'm with you, I own 3 and pretty much never put them in my rotation. I like the knife like you said, fit finish is excellent, bit I don't get the hype over it. It's probably the nutnfancy echo we are all hearing, and sadly people do listen to this guy....

I never listen to that blowhard but I still like para 2's. :D

I find that they "hit most of the checkmarks" in what I want for an EDC knife.
