Am I crazy? I'm thinking of buying a Hummer.

They brought the Brat back for a while, as a double cab, but I guess it did not last. I believe they called the new model the Baja.

The weight definitely affects the mileage, but so does the higher horsepower everyone was trying to produce.

Yeah I had considered the Baja. The main thing I don't like about it is that it's just so butt-ugly (to me, anyway). Otherwise I might even consider looking for a used one. BTW thanks for that Hummer club link, Charles. I definitely will check it out later when I have time.

Send me the $$ and I'll get one and drive it over for you! :D

now that is beautiful to my eye. True genius is making something so ugly it's cute. Doubtless would be banned unless already here & grandfathered in...

It just goes to show how vehicles generally have packed on the pounds over the last 25 years. I had a 1982 Subaru Brat that got over 30mpg, but today there is nothing around like that. I think even the current Subarus get only about 25mpg. Federal safety regs, I think.

What I have noticed is, since they have added Ethanol to the Gasoline our gas mileage has gone down.

I got this Toyota FJ Cruiser and I'm not a bit sorry.
It's solid, powerful and hasn't gave me a bit of a problem.
It's made in Japan and was well under 27,000 after negotiationing.
The 4X4 is amazing in deep snow.
Gas mileage isn't the best,(premium too) But I can live with that.
If you want the Hummer only you can decide if it's for you. I'm glad I went ahead and bought my FJ and didn't listen to anyone that was trying to talk me into staying with a car.

You think that's ugly?? You should see the series one! The Defender series is positively pretty in comparison:D

No I don't think it's ugly. But I'm guessing a lot of people would. I am a guy who like the old Subarus (pre 82) before they finally gave in and tried to start making them 'stylish.'

Jill, if they made the FJ with a pickup bed, it would be on my list. When I first saw it, I thought maybe it was a removable hardtop and was intrigued (some SUV's like the old Scout II used to be made that way. I think 80's Chevy Blazers were too.

Anyway it's a great looking rig to me and sounds like you got a bargain. I usually like any vehicle with a unique look--I don't not like the cars that look just like all the other cars.

HMMMMMMMMMM

series 1 = aluminum body on a jeep chassis

Now a 2 door soft top 110 with a turbo diesel would be sweet:D

555, I've heard that there is also a lot more water dissolved in gasoline. I'm told that if you take a measured amount of water in a jar, add some gasoline, and shake, when it settles out, the water you added will draw water from the gas, and since they separate the volume difference is quite apparent. also water+ethanol=formic acid. cause I want that in my car....

I don't know if you get the Isusu range but the 1tonner in 3l diesel haul's a major load. I have several friends using it to haul kit hundreds of miles per week with 1t in the bed and 2t in the trailer.

Isuzu was pretty popular here even 15 years ago but as far as I can tell they are no longer sold in the U.S. As you can probably tell from my posts, I'm really not that much of a car/truck person, so I don't know the story behind that. I suspect that Isuzu emphasized diesels, and the laws & regs here have not been kind to diesels. I have read that around 40% cars sold in Europe are diesel but less than 1% in the U.S.

We also get your big Ford 150 in straight 6 4.2 turbo diesel. That truck just hauls at a goodly pace. Diesel has a hidden penalty of fixit cost, when they go wrong they do it totally at high cost, you do need to care for the turbos with clean fuel. Cared for they really do out last petrol motors. It is not feasible for town runabout. Doing long distance and loads they stand head and shoulders above petrol motor pick ups.

Toyota does a similar single/kingcab pickup here in 3l Diesel (auto optional) as is the 4x4. I am not a Toyota fan as they work more on performance than does the Isusu at the cost of pure grunt.

I have been considering several options including the Kia 2700 diesel 1.5t. It is not expensive but the Isusu hauls that much more under duress.

Pickups without diesel option is seriously rough. We even get the H3 in Diesel.

Hardly any new diesels are available here. I think just the full size trucks & vans from the Big 3, and a smattering of VW's and Mercedes-Benzes.

Here is a sweet inexpensive ride that goes just about anywhere. Bought it used with about 10,000 miles on it for around $18K.

I'm 50 now and had to do the family vehicle for around 20 years. Kids grown now and bought this to save money from the dodge 1500 crew cab. I haven't enjoyed driving anything this much since my first car when I was a 16 y/o kid.

I had a 95 Toyota X-cab 4x4, paid for, tough as nails, traded it for a Dodge Dakota 4x4 Quad Cab; I am a stupid man.... Oh my Toyota, please come home
