In thinking that a near perfect marriage would be an ASH1 fitted with resiprene handles?!?

Or...have any of you perfectly rational readers - ever had this very same idea?...;-)

And no - I'm perfectly sober - at this moment anyway...;-)

Now that would be something. I think an even better match would be an FBM with horse stall mat handles!

Yes. I did some online research in obtaining res-c and forming my own handles. Discovered the horse stall mat rubber. Someone on another knife forum claimed it can be cut and sanded like wood. Perhaps if I get ambitious enough I will have a go at it some day. I like to tinker. Andy - what say you to this? It would have to be named...RASH1...;-)

Last night in fact stjones and I were having the same thoughts. I pulled the ResC handle off of a B11 project I've got going, and we were looking at different knives to possibly put the handle on. The only problem with that is the fit of the tang unless your handle donor is the same stock thickness as the one to be put in there.

Actually I think that you would end up with a knife, pretty much identical to the Basic 6.

Unless it is a Sabergrind ASH-1 you are thinking of.

But the Basic 6 is a really cool blade, so not a bad thought.

Great responses. Keep them flowing. Was comparing an ASH1 with a Battle Rat with this in mind last night. Don't know if a res-c off of another knife would be the way to go, or better to manufacture your own set of scales to be fastened as are current ASH1's. Would be easier for us if Busse just produced a run of them...;-)

Great minds think alike - I had a similar thought recently. :D

Screw-on Res-C grips (like those available for handguns) from the factory would be pretty cool, and could be made in different thicknesses to accommodate different hand sizes.

Aye, Sir! After examining both blade handles, while attached, not sure the "slip on type" of current Busse Res-c handles would work on their other models. Believe that the models that incorporate the Res's have reduced handle profiles that allow the rubber sheath to encompass the whole area.

So, I like your idea of bolt on grips of different thicknesses. You would think someone in this vast consumer oriented capitalist culture would make such an item. Perhaps someone will stumble on a source and let us know...;-)

And no one who collects the world's finest knives could be insane ---right???...;-)

Not sure everyone here isnt a little bit insane. But that is what makes it such a cool place to hang out.

I am a bit of purist and I can't see an ASH with anything but canvass of micarta ... ;)

Nope, you're not alone on that one Dan. I should make that my next mod project...

I've thought of trying horse stall mat scales, but for me, the big benefit of ResC is the cushion it provides along the tang. Simply covering the sides with a cushioning material of any sort wouldn't really get you the same effect as a one piece handle. Stall mat does seem to be fairly popular though, so maybe I'm wrong. I"m going to have to get some to try out as well.

Just read the title to your thread.... Nothing else..... The answer is yes;).... Everyone on here is lol...in a good way, of course:rolleyes::D

Thanks all. Figured that title would generate a look. Andy does have a valid point. Even though I thought of this mod, it may not look as good as the original ASH1 handles. I do have a CG with removable scales, and I do like to tinker...;-)

+1^^^ to this I have to admit I like some of my other BusseKin with G-10...however the ASH design and BM designs wear Canvas Micarta rather nicely...

A bit partial to a nicely colored set of G10's. And Insane? Only in that we realize - perhaps subconsciously - that collecting something keeps you mentally active; knowledge seeking; alive and vibrant. I once heard an old person remark: "If you want to stay young - collect something."...;-)
