Am I missing out by not owning a griptilian?

So Ive been thinking recently about the possibility of buying a (mini) gritptilian but so far I havent been able to convince myself to do so. I have owned a lot of benchmade knives (most blue, some black, one gold) and many of them are no longer with me. I have never owned a griptilian though, and I wonder if I am missing out of something.

So for you guys who own one as well as something more expensive from benchmade is this something I should lose sleep over or should I just be happy with my more expensive folders?

Is money an issue? Yes and no. the 60 or so bucks (shipping included) to get a 556 is not such an insignifigant sum that I can just buy it if I dont really want it. Especially beacuse this month Ive been hit with knife aquisistion syndrome and I have somehow managed to end up with 3 new knives. I also really dont want to trade away any of the folders Ive got for one.

Id like to buy one used but I rarely see one that fits my criteria (plain edge, 556 version [I dont care about color or coating]) up on the exchange. I suppose if I really want one I will probably post in the want to buy section but I dont think Im quite there yet.

I would like to note that I am not asking for a recommendation for a folding knife in the 60 dollar range; this is about the griptilian only. I might consider a full sized if there is really a reason too.

Anyway I know this was long so sorry; and thank you for any thoughts.

The mini-Griptilian is awesome in all its variations.
I'd highly recommend getting one.
I like the mini better than the full-sized one due the full-length liners.
It really IS very grippy in the hand as well. Lives up to its name.

Get one then decide. I have a blue, a pink for the ball and chain, and the flagship Cabela's OD D2 black blade mini grip that comes along the most. I love them for the axis lock and the great size.

The Ritter Griptilian may be next unless I get some intervention very soon.

keep what you have, you're not missing anything.
you already have the axis lock so why go backwards, and yes everyone i do own one, not impressed. not even close to my 705-707-943-440 and 814.

Had a full size Grip 551 and a full size Ritter. They were good users but I found the overall thickness of the knife uncomfortable for pocket carry. I did prefer the 154 CM over the Ritter for EDC. The tip cut thru daily mail, bags etc. easier than the Ritter.

BTW, I ditched both of them.

First, you should probably wait till next month. :D

second, full size ritter has been my main EDC for the last two months. I absolutely love it.

I really try to like the mini grip, but it just doesn't do anything for me... at all...
I'll grab a delica over the mini grip every time.

I too would say so, just because once you get tired of it, you can turn it into a Ritter Griptillikin. Those Wilkins grips are spectacular.

I wish they would just esll a Griptillikin. I imagine that the price would be slightly lower than buying a Rittergrip and then getting the Wilkins scales.

I don't own really expensive knives, but my mini-ritter is in the EDC rotation with Caly3 ZDP, Small sebenza, Kulgera, and two strider pt's. I've been through a bunch of different knives, the ritter is still one of my go-to knives. Get one, if you don't like it flip it.

I never bought a Griptilian for the same reasons I don't have a Sabenza. The design just doesn't do it for me.

the 14205 on the other hand is a masterpiece.

Fixed Grip is on the short list for me. But I've never owned a Griptilian.

I have the mini-grip 556. Love the blade shape. The ergos work well for me. Like the 154CM.

The 556 gets a full share of pocket time. It probably gets more than my Native III or my Delica IV. Maybe not quite as much as my Monochrome.

It's not worth losing sleep over as long as you have knives that you like to carry. But it is a good design that works for me.

I got a new 556 for $56 and I feel it is worth every penny. It splits time with my Para D2 and is comfy in the pocket. At that price it's worth a spin because if you don't care for it, someone else will!

The full size Ritter Grip is one of my top 10 favorite knives. It is comfortable in my hand, disappears in my pocket and is light yet tough as nails. I can't recommend a Grip too highly.

My take on this is to try to get ahold of one and decide if the handle shape is one you feel comfortable with. If not, then I'd say you should pass on it. Cheers!

I'm in the same boat. Over the last couple of years, I've learned not to jump on styles I'm not familiar with; I've got too many unused knives sitting in drawers now. There's a gun shop south of here, and they have a good selection of knives. Next time I'm there, I plan on looking at the Grip and a couple of others.

As cool as they look, I just can't 'pull the trigger' on one until I know if I'll like it.

thx - cpr

My Mini Grip owns my pocket and has for about the last 5 years. I have the full size Ritter Grip and lots of more expensive knives, both Benchmades and others and I just went out and bought a spare Mini in case I lose mine! - I'm also thinking of sending one to Tom Krein.

Get the 556- great blade to handle ratio, great handle and blade shape, holds an edge just fine, love the axis lock and my 5 year old EDC is still as tight as I could want it to be- all for under $60!

what do you like about the 556 that you feel makes it superior as an edc knife to a more expensive axis that has g10?

well I think I will keep an eye out for a used mini on the exchange after the first of the month and if it doesnt work out I should be able to move it along for minimal loss.
