Hi guys.
Decided to take my new HR for a "nature walk" today.
Something happened right after I stabbed a tree - coating started to rub off.
Some of it rubbed off; some got smudged, like the clay. Is that a normal thing?
Is it possible that I purchased "replica" of Busse? I don't know how to post a pick, but I could email it to somebody with know-how.
Thanks

How much is rubbing off? It's pretty normal to chip a little coating off the tip... But if it's falling off in big pieces, something's wrong.

man, I wis I had that problem. I gotta grind mine off. They are stuck on there with superglue.

I wouldn't worry about it... It does look a little bit odd that it didn't "chip" at the tip -- kind of looks like it should after many "pokes." But I wouldn't be alarmed if it were mine.

looks normal to me. the coatings are tough, but the friction caused by stabbing or chopping will rub of some of the coating, especially the crinkle coat.

now it has character!!!

The texture has just started to smooth out and wear off. Its gonna happen with any type of coating at some point.

I like it myself. Gives a knife character.

heres my sfno an hhfsh after ALOT of chopping. both have the crinkle coat.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's going to wear eventually, and INFI offers considerable corrosion resistance on its own. Use it. Abuse it.

I'd call in, ask someone from the Shop to check the pic on this thread, describe the 'claying'to them. That person can then tell you about it, and whether or not to send it in unless you request it. Seems more than from any one poke I've ever given a new Busse, but not alarming. What kind of wood did ya poke? INFIwood?

It looks like it could not have cured properly. I would consider sending it back.
If it is like that across the whole knife you could have a real problem with very fast wear or flaking. I know it is a pain sending stuff back but what is the point having a knife with the worlds best warranty if you don't use it?

Thanks everybody. I'll call Busse on monday, but I didn't buy it from the shop, would that make a difference?

No, they'll always warranty their knives, regardless.

You may want to go ahead and let someone see the pic -- then use it some more anyway before sending it back. It'd be a drag to send it back to have them make it perfect, only to be afraid to use it again. If it's going to get used, may as well use it hard for a while and see what it does.
