Am I the only one who doesn’t like Spyderco

I’ve never even actually handled one. They hold no attraction for me. Lots of folks seem to enjoy them so I’m glad they exist.

I thumbed my nose in their general direction for years thinking they were all hype. Then I finally bought one. Then another. And yet another. Oh so drop-shutty and thumb-flicky!

Thanks for everyone’s feedback, correction, opinions and laughs. Bottom line is I just gotta buy some different models and road test them.

I hated them for the longest time.

I somewhat recently considered the Manix 2 after I needed to move away from Benchmade. Manix 2 is my EDC and will be for a very long time. Lots of 3rd party parts!

Kudos for your new perspective and the Manix 2 is one of my favs also. Though dig the looks of the aftermarket scales, can't imagine how they would improve the feel or grip as the stocks are just glove fitting. Lastly I'd challenge your blade motto. :) Admire the Never-take-a-day-off work mindset but personally and generally would always recommend taking off Sat. or Sunday. Honoring the Sabbath is a real thing and have known more than a few business folk who uphold the Sabbath and they are millionaires+.

To the OP, I'm with ya basically Spyderco's honestly have some of the ugliest knives. 😆 I always find myself looking over a new edition or new model going "why in the hell did they do this, curve that or not include this?" etc. At the same time absolute salute and hats off for bringing us all the great invention of Spydiehole for blade opening. Vastly prefer this over the thumb stud. Also you can really trust the heat treats and quality of steels Spyderco uses. Then of course admiration for many a models and collaborations and one of their greatest inventions, the Spyder-edge. It's really hands down the best serrated edge out there and still looking to find a straight edged folding knife that can match the cutting power and longevity of the Spyder-edge in a good steel.

Though I don't own any Spydies, my favs and top 5's would be the Manix 2, the Slyz Bowie, the Technos, the D'allara (believe its called), and the Stretch 2. All others don't really do much for me but would like to check out the Drunken, the Lum, and Perrin PPK?, the Payaso, the Nirvana, and the Schempp. For me its a possible hit or a big miss with Spyderco's.

I DO prefer the stock grip better than the custom scales! Please don't bring this up again lmao

I listened to and studied the hype.

I bought a Paramilitary 2. Aluminum scales. CTS BD1N Blade. Perfectly centered . Wonderful ergos. Zero complaints.

I really like it. Don't carry it.

I like other knives more.

A couple decades ago I engraved some Copilot models for a producer on America’s Most Wanted. He gave all the guys at my shop a knife too - pretty cool guy!
I carried that thing forever, thought I’d lost it, and recently found I’d given it to a pal in Australia! I had no recollection of where it went. I’m glad it’s in good hands though.

I’ve had a bunch of newer spydercos, they work fine, but ultimately I’ve moved them on down the line.

Might be time to grab another manix2…

Yeah, I also didn't like them, and then I got a Native 5. After using it, I came to appreciate the spydie-hole and the thought that went into designing the knife. I know the Native platform is probably the most conservative Spyderco design, but it's opened my eyes to Spyderco as a brand and I would be more than happy to buy another one again. They just work as intended.

Very cool. Yeah I circled back to the Manix 2. When I first tried it was a number in a series of potential prospects which included the Domino, the Endura, the Delica, the Native 5, the Stretch, etc. Had a lot of other various knives at the time and the M2 reminded me of a Strider SNG but with better ergos. However, passed on it as liked the Strider more in terms of prefer that lock and a non-full flat grind. Then years later after selling both and after reading and hearing so much hype on the Manix 2, I took another gander at it. Sure enough I found one more I liked that wasn't flat ground and with a custom scale(s). Took me years to circle back and realized how much I appreciated and preferred ergonomics and a Spydiehole vs. studs and other methods of opening. The only downside I felt was the action was tough (fixed that with aftermarket parts) and it carries fairly large in pocket. There's many good knives out there but the Manix 2 is one hell of a knife that honestly could compete with the best of them. Still have the custom scales and this is a tribute to likely will pickup another M2 this year or next.

So I bought my first Spyderco to get my feet wet. Bought a Persistence with G10 scales because of it’s looks and dimensions. I know it’s not USA made but gotta say that’s a nice knife. It’s perfectly centered, fits and feels great in hand, locks up solid, no side to side blade play, smooth one handed opening and closing, and looks and feels like quality. I’m really sold on the thumb hole design now, much preferred over a thumb stud. So if the USA made models are even better then I’m well on my way to becoming a brand fan. 😁
