Am I the only one who hates pocket clips?

Yup. Around town I don't mind pocket clips.
Hiking/backpacking I use a belt sheath.

Didn't even read the thread, but that is crazy IMO.

That is the beauty of the modern folder, the pocket clip. I hate NOT having a pocket clip, the only knife I'll EDC without one is a small SAK in my coin pocket.

Yes, you're the only one. The single person on the entire planet that doesn't like pocket clips. I am actually shocked that you didn't realize how very unique you are because it's pretty clear that everyone on this forum always carries knives with pocket clips.

Here in California a folder has to be completely concealed, and technically a pocket clip keeps it from being such.
I'm not aware of anyone getting in trouble for this, but the technicality is there
Lived in California my entire life and have never heard of such a law. Do you know the penal code?

I grew up with traditional pocket knives. I usually remove the clips from the knives that have them, and carry even tacticals in a pocket.

Also, I live in NYC, and a friend was arrested for walking in his wealthy neighborhood carrying a “gravity knife” (it was a tactical with a thumb-stud). The cops saw the tip of the clip. He ended up paying $25,000 in legal fees to fight the case. No clips for me....

I do not know the penal code.
I cannot find it now and all I really find is law summaries from various websites, but I'm positive the last time I read up on the law about two years ago it said " folding knives must be fully concealed ".
It was most certainly in there.

Maybe they have since changed it and I hope they did, because it's rediculous and makes no sense.

My only explanation for the fully concealed folders part would be that they figure if it's just a cutting tool nobody should be able to see it and freak out, that's not a good explanation by any means but it's the only thing I can think of for it being / having been in there.

I lost one good working knife, 15 yrs ago, BECAUSE it had no clip and slipped out of my pocket when I was rolling around on the floor trying to fix a machine.

I would never purchase a knife without a clip. I can't stand having a knife bounce around my pocket. Not to mention that with the amount of things that are carried in pockets these days, having a clip gives me more room.

In times past, I carried clipless and my knives would often find ways of escape. I lost some, found others in the couch or car seat and so on. Clips have solved this problem. I only carry clipless now when I want complete concealment.
I initially did find them uncomfortable in the hand, but have since completely adjusted to them.

Won't carry a folder without a clip. There are a lot of beautiful traditionals that I pass up because I know they won't see any pocket time. I do occasionally carry a SAK with a dangler-style clip, but I carry too many things in my pockets to have something I use as often as a knife floating around loose.

I like pocket clips as well. If more traditionals were available with clips, I'd buy them. I know I'll pick up one of the Buck 110's with a pocket clip.

I find a pocket clip extremely useful , even without pockets. I clip the knife onto my waistband, and
they're also very handy for attaching a folder to the pouch in a backpack.

I broke the clip off my early 90s Endura. While in the bottom of my pocket, lint got into the back lock. I almost cut myself when the lock failed to engage. I hate how my clipless knives ALWAYS lay sideways in my pocket.

Actually I am not too impressed with many contemporary knife styles. Lots I like but many are just variations of the same old or go over the top quirky with no benefit to the usefulness of the knife. Pretty bored too with all TI knives.

All this to say that I typically much prefer the look and materials of TRADITIONALS and would have lots more of those if they had pocket clips.

Now I'm a pariah in both camps. :)

I want the aesthetics and cutting geometry of a traditional married to the utility of a modern OHO. I will say that companies seem to be edging closer and closer to doing this and I'm excited to see it continue.

I want the upcoming Elijah Isham Blackstar pretty badly, as it seems like it could be the best example of that I've seen so far.

Good luck - there will only be 100 made. It will be a beauty if unconventional (a good thing) a 2-1/2" non-locking detent flipper BOWIE. https://www.theapexnews.com/home-1/2018/4/30/elijah-isham-teases-with-blackstar
Don't know that it will have a pocket clip. o_O

I have liked the Lionsteel offerings (such as the Shuffler). It would be an easy EDC with a clip. Needing to wear a sheath for a "pocket " knife is just one more thing - though I do it for a few specials. Can't abide a 3" or longer folder in my main pocket. If it fits the coin/watch pocket great - I'm in - otherwise I typically pass. I'm carrying 2 in a sheath these days but for work knives - gotta have a clip. Just my 2¢.

Pocket clips wear the top of my pockets, clipless wears holes in the bottom of my pockets. I've tried everything and can't find a solution that is just right. Call me Goldilocks.
