Am I weird for not liking to use clips?

clips only for me. I'd like to try EDCing a slipjoint but I hate having knives in the bottom of my pockets.

When I first started carrying knives back when I was a youngin, I didn't like clips because I didnt want the attention that having a knife clipped to your pocket got an 18 year old kid. Now, I clip like theres no tomorrow because I am a hardier type of man. ;)

Shoving knives in pockets just seems so disorganized. With a clip, you know exactly where it is. Also, when you clip your knife to your pocket, you keep the pocket clear to put other things in it.

No clips for me. I don't mind the "pocket bottom" feel. And so what if my keys get a scratch or two.

I lost my EDC of countless years the first time it was carried unclipped... Nothing expensive but honestly irreplaceable.

Been strictly clip carry since then.

I like clips but some of the pants I wear have zippers on their pockets and a clip would both get scratched all to pieces and tear the zippers up too! So there are times when I cant use a clip but with a zip pocket I am not likely to lose it! Kevin :D:thumbup:

Clips for me, especially on my Spyderco's. If one looks carefully at the style and placement of the clips from the factory, they have everything to do with the ergonomics of the grip. It is no accident these Spydie clips are more often then not, enhance your grip more then they detract.

I'm a big fan of the clip, but if there's not one, I'm ok with a good lanyard instead. No lanyard hole and no clip means I hate it lol

Carrying my Endura 4 in my back pocket without a clip always easier to get a hold of and makes it even slimmer!

I took the clip off my work carry knife and found a snap buckle sheath that can be carried horizontally.

Not because I don't like clips, but more so I don't lose a knife.

I used to be all about pocket clips...

until I broke the clip of my Spyderco Delica and realized how much more comfortable it was to hold/use

and then i realized all my knives with clips were better feeling without the clip..

it seems to me that pocket clips are more of an after thought in design - rather than a clearly thought out element

I also don't like to promote the fact I am carrying a knife.

plus I carry a slip joint or a fixed blade 99% of the time soooooooo...... clips not needed.

but clip point blades, now thats another story!

I used to love clips, now I'm experimenting with taking them off. I can't decide which I like better yet.

The knife does feel MUCH better in the hand without a clip. Any knife.

I hate having a knife in the bottom of my pocket. It's difficult to get out, it tends to fall sideways, it's quite uncomfortable and it also prints.

Clip por favor.

I knife without a clip is more comfortable in the hand and to use, but clips are convenient for carry. I've tried carrying knives in my pocket but it's really annoying when the turn horizontally in the pocket. So i mostly end up using pocket clips. It's not crazy to use a knife without clip, everyone has their preference.

I like clips. I carry stuff in my pockets and a knife, or 3, would just be more stuff in my pocket to sort through. Plus they settle horizontally and make a big awkward bulge and aren't nearly as quick to access. I wouldn't want my carbon fiber knives to get torn up by other metal objects either. I tried carrying a slip joint for a while and lost it quite a few times to a couch or recliner as it just seemed to slide out of my pocket. I eventually lost it for good.

I carry tip up and find the clip actually helps with my grip when using the thumb stud or hole. It allows me to grip the knife more securely with my finger tips and pull the knife tightly into my palm. Without a clip and flipping a knife open I feel like I'm going to fling the knife across the room. I also don't find a clip uncomfortable because when I'm holding the knife my palm curves away from the handle and the clip sits right there. I can't even tell it's there most of the time.

I'm surprised so many people are concerned about people being able to see a clip, especially if it is legal to carry one. But I don't really care what people think and certainly wouldn't let what someone might think dictate the way I live my life. It is no one's business what I carry around with me. When people are scared to use a tool they enjoy in public, let alone worry about a visible pocket clip, it's no wonder so many unprepared people are surprised when they see a knife. It's surprising how quick a pocket knife went from a standard item in a man's pocket to people freaking out at the mere sight of one. That said, I use a knife whenever I need it in public all the time. I have never had anyone say anything nor have I ever had someone recoil in fear or give a startled look. Even in a liberal college town. I'm sure location has something to do with it, but the way it is used probably also has to do with people's reactions. I take my knife out, open it, and use it while paying attention to the task. If you flick it open in a big display or look over your shoulder looking around and making eye contact with people like you are doing something wrong, I imagine people will be more concerned.

I don't know if your weird for not liking them, but seeing the popularity of knives with clips and the usefullness of them, I would say you're in the minority.

Not weird at all.
I remove the clip from most of my EDC rotation. When clipped, it's tougher to reach other things in my pocket. On most of my knives, it also interferes with the ergonomics.
On those that are kinda slippery with no clip, I'll leave it on but rarely use it.
I also see no reason to advertise that I'm carrying a knife, and find it easier to remove and, especially, put the knife back when I'm done without 'em there.

My right front pocket is dedicated to my folder - nothing else - it's alone.

I don't like clips because they announce to the world that I am carrying a knife. Has served me well for years with no problems.

When I go into the big city or bar my clip folders turn into non clip. If some drunken idiot wants to fight me in a bar, I rather him not see me have a knife on a clip and grab it (when where tusslin). When I am in the big city in certain states (MA, NH, ME), I am never really sure what the rules are (out of sight out of mind). Other than that you are not weird, your gonna be ok!
