I know most here never thought much of Amazon , but in the past I valued the customer reviews and comments , for knives and many other products .

I always took them with a grain of salt , but with careful reading I felt like I could sort out the valuable info .

The comments on the reviews were often the best part and helped keep the process more honest .

There was even some sense of community , a back and forth , give and take conversation possible .

That seems to be all gone now . Lots of great info is gone and BS / disinformation reigns supreme !

Shame , shame , for shame .

Something in specific happened? I thought it was like this for a while…

Yeah, Amazon reviews are not worth much.

Almost all of the reviews I’ve left that would highlight a poor product were removed. Also, many times the manufacturer would contact me to ask me to remove my review. A handful of times it was borderline hostile.

It is a market flooded with fakes and inferior products.

I just looked and I'm seeing reviews, even the bad ones.

So far, I'm not impressed for what this camera should be doing and what the other reviewers say. I'm not a professional but I've had photography classes and know how to work and change the settings. The photos are just not crisp. The lighting is touchy and although I haven't done much outside yet, I'm sure the outdoor photos are better than indoor. I mainly want to take photos and videos of my toddler son. Took over 100 tonight indoors and took similar photos in the same lighting and setting with an older Canon Elph. The Elph's photos are much clearer and in focus. I changed all kinds of settings playing with the SX740 and not much help. The focus is very persnickety and I can't have this while trying to capture moments that don't last long. If the camera isn't going to be good indoors it's not going to work out for me. I also find that the flash that you have to pop up yourself prior to needing it is cumbersome. The audio for the video is good but again the video is not as crisp as I feel it should be. Disappointed.

There is a culture of trying to get bad reviews removed on amazon. Most of those involve third party sellers from overseas. All of my negative reviews for products that come from Amazon itself are still up. The site has been promoting chinese knockoff garbage over legitimate products for so long now, I've all but abandoned buying there anymore.

Did you see any place for COMMENTS ?

Well there used to be , and that was probably the best part , IMO .

If a review was total BS , a scam , or simple misinformed ignorance ...customers could enter a comment on the review .:thumbsup:

That tended to provide a check on completely false and misleading reviews . And an avenue for correct information to be added by consumers . :):thumbsup:

Seems that is now gone . So whatever value the reviews had is now very much reduced . IMO , YMMV . :(:thumbsdown:

So wait; comments from the purchasers or random YouTube style stream of conscious postings?

I honestly have no earthly notion of what you are trying to say .

Wait ..so you have no idea what Amazon customer reviews with comments used to be ?

Lots were worthless , but some were from very knowledgeable and honest people that had valuable information and experience to share .

Now it's all gone . Do you understand yet why I might be upset ?

I use the FakeSpot extension to help assess the quality of Amazon reviews.

See: FakeSpot

Also when I read Amazon reviews:

1) I only consider reviews by "Verified Purchasers" credible, especially w/regard to negative reviews;
2) I list all reviews by those that are "Most Recent" because the nature of the product and the quality of reviews can change over time;
3) I only buy items that offer Prime free shipping and returns, and
4) I buy only from Amazon (rather than a 3rd party vendor) when possible.

Doing these things has vastly improved my buying experience on Amazon.

PS: FakeSpot also works on EB but I do not pay as much attention to it there because it just provides a general assessment of the seller's reputation across all of the sellers' transactions w/o regard to the specific product sold/purchased.

I use more stringent criteria for making a buying decision on EB than I do on Amazon which require an assessment of the product and seller independently.

I don't know exactly when the comments were all deleted and the feature was removed , but I only really noticed recently .

I went back to look for some information that was in the comments section of an old review , and finally realized they were all gone .

I guess I don't spend enough time on Amazon reading reviews and comments.

For me , I'm just happy to find good information ...whatever the source .

Amazon made it much harder to sort that out on their site by eliminating comments .

So I did read this a bit further because that's what I do. The reviews from the buyers are still active. The comments were from the sellers responding to the reviews.

If someone gave a one star review the seller could post in the clear to show they wanted to know more. Now sellers can't respond directly on the page for all to see.

If this disadvantages anyone I would presume it would be the sellers.
