Bring this back up top since it seems like you had a real great time.

I wish I was there!

We stayed in this small town along the river before finishing up our fire signaling skills and heading back to Iquitos.

Time for a real dinner. No bugs, roots, plants, or jungle water.

Lets just say I had a taste for Inca Kola

Bear,

Other than the mosqito net, did you find or do anything that worked for the bugs? From the looks of it you got fairly well eaten alive.

That sign reminds me of one I pass all the time out in the country. "Do not throw dead animals off the bridge". I guess you can throw lives ones, though. Mac

I respect your decision to do the trip without protection to experience the raw (pun intended) reality of it. I have done it unintentionally and learned a new level of misery. Anymore I do the permethrin and DEET treatment and have a fine time of it without the swelling and itching.

Your jungle bed reminded me of one I built with my daughter. Ours was a bunk bed and it was alot of work but we slept great and spent two nights in it. In the area I use I'm either on private land or in a forest reserve so I try not to cut too many trees. I have taken down one small palm to try palm heart, but I was so far off the beaten track that nobody would notice it. It is good stuff, we can even get it as a pizza topping here, shredded chicken and palm heart.

The mountain streams in my area don't have any fish due to the 70 meter waterfall down below and the area is off limits for hunting. I would love to be able to do my thing in an area that was legal to live off the land.

It really is something else to wake up on that first morning in the jungle. Mac

The jungle in the morning is really something. It is easy to get up and start going since it is not cold.

My time in the Peruvian amazon was one of the best of my life. Where were you specifically. Pretty sure I saw some shots of Iquitos there. I spent my time in the Pacaya-Samaria reserve just above the confluence of the Marañon and the Ucayali. No DEET is the way to go, doesn't really slow em down and in high concentrations is pretty bad for you.

Ah Inca Kola, looks like piss tastes like bubble gum, nectar of the gods. I brought 10L back of it, all gone now though.

Marañon and the Ucayali that was the place. Iquitos was fun and cheap. Inca Kola is the greatest drink. Can't wait to go back in April for traking and more survival.
