Hi,
I'm considering buying some books through Amazon, however I don't like very much the idea they keep my CC number - that doesn't smell good

What I'd like to know wheter they are reliable or if you know better source (shop)?

Great place to buy books; definitely recommended.

Very well run company with extraordinarily high customer satisfaction.

I have never has a problem with Amazon. I buy used books and other stuff from them and find that they are almost always exactly as advertised.

I have never had a problem with Amazon either. I have purchased a lot of stuff over the years from them. Great service.

If you aren't comfortable with them keeping a credit card number, sign up for a new credit card for small purchases, keep a low credit level on it, and just use that for internet buying.

If someone uses your credit card without your permision, you are not liable.
It is totaly safe. The credit card company takes the hit! (and passes it back to you in interest rates):o
There is no way for anyone to get your Social Security number from a credit card purchase!!

I've never had a problem with Amazon and I have used them for several years. They have proven themselves to be reliable with my purchases.

However, with any e'tailer, leaving your credit card in their system is a risk.

Long time Amazon user. Excellent service. Zero problems on items purchased directly from Amazon. A few problems with some of the affiliated merchants that sell through Amazon, but Amazon's guarantee is iron clad.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I'm using debit card not credit card, that's why it bothers me.

Steelnut, Esav - no, we don't have "social security number"

I've been using Amazon for the last 4 years. They have both my credit card and my debit account info. I've had absolutely NO problems whatsoever. I've bought about 30 cd's, 15 books, and a few other odds and ends that I couldn't find anywhere else. If a book or cd is available, you'll find it there. Sometimes you just can't get your hands on something and Amazon always comes through. Especially when I order my textbooks. I just got $210 worth of textbooks for $60 without any highlighting. Pretty good.

Amazon is great. I can buy used books & CDs for a fraction of the retail price. A few were only a penny (+ shipping). Your info is secure.

It should, NEVER use a Debit Card online, unless your bank gives you the same protections a Credit Card does. I've been buying from Amazon for years with a Credit Card and never had a problem, but most Debit Cards do not carry the same protection that Credit Cards do.

A gal I used to hang out with, used her Debit Card to buy something online one time and two days later her checking account was cleaned out using an ATM 1000 miles from where we live. Her bank only returned some of the money after her lawyer went after them, but it took a long time to get it.

Credit card market in my country is not very good. In most cases you can't even use it to pay online with it.

OK, sorry, I didn't notice where you were from.

An account with a Debit Card dedicated soley for online purchases and with just enough funds to cover them would be an idea.

No, the merchant takes the hit, not the bank.
