American Lawman CTS-XHP

He just slipped it over the thumb stud that doesn't have the slot for the screwdriver. Pinched it with a vise grip and turned with the screw driver. My CS's I did the same thing, they can off pretty easy.
Thx.

Yeah, not happening. Even with two vice grips, the thumbscrews won’t budge. Both Recons are the same. Super strange. First of dozens of knives I own that I have had this problem. Literally fused together.

Try more heat to loosen the thread locker(Loc-Tite). We had the same problem on the sights of a Glock slide. With enough heat, we were able to remove the sight.

Have you tried carefully heating the thumbstud with a small soldering iron? If Loctite is the culprit, then heat should loosen it.

Thanks for the advise!

On topic, I found a good deal on a Coyote Tan American Lawman today and pulled the trigger. Looking forward to my 4th CS.

I own about 50 knives, but the Tri-ad lock is my favourite. Generally not a lock back fan, but man is that lock rock solid.

I got mine from the west coast for $105. The black handled one (I like my Fords, Harleys, Webers and knives to be in any color as long as it's black) was around $35 more, so I got Coyote tan scales. I can live with that.

Still a great knife for $105. Nothing wrong with a Taiwan made knife in XHP IMO.

The Coyote tan/black blade version I got was $84US, so that is why I jumped on it. The olive green or black scaled version would have been my first choice but they were $111US. I don’t mind the tan and most of my knives are black. Nice to have a bit of variety.

My Coyote Tan American Lawman showed up today and it is even fuglier in person. Not terrible, but not my favourite colour combo to say the least.;)

Added a Snaggletooth “Wave” opener to it and it is one fine knife at first look. The Tri-Ad lock is rock solid as expected with any CS knife, it is light, thin, perfect blade centering and razor sharp out of the box. No negatives except the blade finish shows fingerprints more than most other brands’ coating, but who cares as it is a very durable finish from what I have seen on my Recon 1.

Glad I added another CS XPS Knife before they switch steels.

Cannot get this knife sharp.I have a 2 step Sharp N Easy sharpener.I try both sides coarse and fine. The fine seems to make it more dull.Maybe i put too much pressure?Do the sharpening stones get damaged?

This could probably be due to the angle of your knife not matching the angle of the sharpener. Also you have to strop it afterwards to remove the burr. I would not recommend a pull through sharpening system like that. Your better off with something else to sharpen your knife like bench stones, lansky diamond system or rods like a sharpmaker or similar.

Those cheap and easy systems are really not that great as they are made for only one angle often. Don't use too much pressure in them. Also the ceramic could be loaded, you can try and clean it off.

I have (had) 2 xhp American Lawman, one hollow grind, one flat grind. Both have the same small problem. The blade is too easy to open when closed. Other tri-ad lock folders have tension to keep the knife closed, my Lawmans don't have this.
Are other Lawmans like this?

I love my Recon 1, I have beaten it to tar and it still locks up tighter than things I’m not allowed to say on this forum ;). The only complaint that I have is that it’s too big for EDC, and that’s where I would imagine the lawman fits in better. I really want to pick one up in XHP, but I already spent my knife budget this year... How wide is it in the pocket compared to the recon 1? (which is thinner than I expected)
