I am new to hatchets and tomahawks.. However, one of my fellow cadets in ROTC said these are the best on the market... I am looking at this one in particular. I am thinking about placing an order, but I wanted to get some reviews from some folks who would have a better idea about them than me...

Here is the American Tomahawk I am looking at... Please leave your thoughts and comments good or bad on this blade. Because I am about to put some moeny into it if I can get enough green lights.

The only thing I don't like about mine is the big pits in the surface from open forging. Wish it looked like the one in that photo.

Other than looks, it is VERY tough.

Mine has pits on one side but that doesn't detract it from being a very wicked weapon. It throws well and when I chipped a corner on the pavement from a bounced throw, I just filed it square and kept on going. This is no safe queen . Go and beat on it.

SO these things really are tough as hell then? What do yall mean pits? Is the surface bad on them... I hate to pay $129.95 for something that is pitted... Almost like getting a rifle with a pitted barrel... Nothing pisses me off more.

Yes, they are tuff. Here's pics of mine, pits and all. Sorry for the limited depth of field, I was in a hurry. I'm not saying they ALL look like this, just mine.

Go ahead and get the ATC VTAC. Sure, it's not the prettiest with plastic handle and pits left over from forging.

My guess is that you want/need it for the same reason I got mine. It's a durable, hardworking tool. My VTAC lived with my during my Iraq deployment, and it will be with me when I head out to Afgan this winter.

The VTAC is as tough as they come. They are also some of the most pitted castings I have ever seen. I've had two, and I loved using them. Great balance, great feeling in the hand, great thrower, and you could nuke this thing, it would come back and ask for more. Unfortunately, the VTACs head surfaces generally look like they have been hit by a nuke, even brand new. The attitude I felt that I got from Andy Prisco, when I asked him about this, was that we were warned that QC was not a priority as far as cosmetics go.

I will say that the other designs, when available, are almost flawless and extremely tough. The price reflects that as well. Good Luck on your decision.

yea i am not doubting that the thing is tough, i just hate to spend over a hundred bucks on something that is pitted...

does it come with a sheath and can they mail it via USPS?

You can find VTACs for way less that the 120 MSRP. I bought mine for $65, brand new. You just have to look around.

They do come with a sheath and shipping is dependant on who you buy it from. Most will probably ship UPS or USPS.

Andy Prisco at ATC has the best warranty policy ever. Send him a broken Hawk and he'll send you a new one, no questions asked.
