American Tomahawk purchase...

The VTAC is great but I'm always partial to the CQC-T (Same manufacturer and website if you want to see it) but I like to have more of a combat weapon in a tomahawk and this is more of that than a VTAC, which is astonishing!

Get both of them !!!

i thought the VTAC was the hawk that all the others were judged against as far as tactical hawks went....

but the truth is, i dont have over 300 dollars to buy a Tomahawk with! LOL

It's a good stretch that a quality hawk from any of the current makers will do the job. ATC has a following as does Emerson, Strider, K5 and on and on.

Will a 300 dollar hawk chop a better hole than a 100 dollar hawk? Unlikely but it's all a matter of what you can afford and where your preferences lie.

Have you ordered yours yet? I'm sure all your questions have been answered.

Time to get your hands on one and decide if it was the right choice. I don't think you will be disappointed, pits or no pits, slick handle or not. It's just how they are made and it is not all that big a deal. Not sharp enough, get out the file and have at it. Remember, it's a tool.

Here's a set up that should get you safely through the night.

NICE!!! I have a similar setup myself;) I am so happy I bought mine! And it was $107 shipped! Handle is not slippery at all and I don't have much of the pitting that some have mentioned.

Reconseed, Just buy it already. You'll be glad you did!

fellas, i know i know... i need to quit the questioning and just get it... i am going to go to the bank tomorrow, put the cash on it and then come home and email andy and get the hawk en route to my doorstep! andy said he can make it very sharp for me... if i wanted it that way... what do you guys think about that? go or no-go on the sharp hawk? i dont wanna sacrafice what its for if i will be doing that by getting it sharper. one more ?, what is the sheath it comes with like? what does it look like and can it be attached to your pack?

Stock black cordura sheath. MOLLE compatible. There are some kydex makers that do sheaths. Survival Sheath Systems in WA makes a rig but it will cost you half the hawk's price. Stick with the stock one till you decide if it will work for you.

IMO, I would get a stock VTAC. The edge angle is designed to be a chopper and if you make it too thin, it will weaken the edge should it hit something hard. It's a chopper not a knife. You can always get it thinned out later or do it yourself. Believe me, it's sharp enough and takes an edge easily. I use a file and coarse stone.

There should be a stock sheath pic somewhere on the web. Here's one just for you. VTAC in sheath along with a Ranger RD9 and BK9.

Thanks for the comments, hatchet-
